NFL 2014 season

I started laughing when the steelers went full Schiano and blitzed the victory formation.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Actually that's full Ryan. He famously did that (to the Steelers, no less) in the 2010 AFC Championship game.

Kap played a very good game but you'd never know it by the numbers. I think Crabs is gone after this season, with Stevie Johnson more than capably filling that role. VD might be gone as well if he doesn't start pulling his weight salary wise. The Bolden drops were indeed head scratchers. Hopefully just a fluke, but if he makes a few of those catches you're right about this being a blow out.Havok wrote:Season saved... this week.
And how about poetic fucking justice for Ahmad Brooks getting the strip sack that got us the win as he was robbed of the strip sack to get us the win last year because Drew Brees is a short little fragile snow flake. Awesome.
And yeah that was a dive, but it was still offensive pass interference you whiny ginger.
However, what the fuck Bolden and Crabtree?! That game is a blow out if you dingleberries don't decide that footballs carry Ebola in the second half of games.
And I'm just going to assume that Vernon Davis is either really hurt or fucked Kaepernick's mom or something at this point.
HAHAHAHA! Fuck you Steelers.
Re: NFL 2014 season
I love Rex Ryan and hope that when he is fired, he comes back to coach our defence. (Which probably will never happen).
But you just gotta love the guy.

The Steelers weren't in the 2010 AFC Championship game. Weren't even in the playoffs that year. Maybe the Jets did that to the Colts in the Championship game?Alferd Packer wrote:Actually that's full Ryan. He famously did that (to the Steelers, no less) in the 2010 AFC Championship game.

Well, the game technically took place in 2011, but it was the 2010 season. I can't be arsed to keep with the proper nomenclature for this stuff.Terralthra wrote:The Steelers weren't in the 2010 AFC Championship game. Weren't even in the playoffs that year. Re: NFL 2014 season
I've never understood why anyone would take exception to that anyway. If you're within a score of tying the game, why shouldn't you try a blitz to see if you can force a bad snap/fumble. If I'm on the other side of the ball, "fuck your victory formation!" Don't like it? Run a normal play, but no reason to concede when a bad snap could give you a chance to tie/win the game.Thanas wrote:I started laughing when the steelers went full Schiano and blitzed the victory formation.

I think it is Bush league - chance for injury is pretty high, whereas the chance of this working is less than 1%.

Boldin caught 6 for 93 and a TD AND had 4 MASSIVE drops. I mean, Kaep may have had a 300 yard day if Boldin and Crabtree had dropped I think 6 passes between them and the game wouldn't have been close.TheHammer wrote:Kap played a very good game but you'd never know it by the numbers. I can see Crabtree leaving, but not Davis. I think they will get him back into it soon, but yeah, if Johnson keeps playing like he has been and Crabtree starts dropping passes, you very well may be right. I have to look at their contracts though. It may not be the year to release them.
That said, and I can't believe I can fathom this, but fucking Borland is starting to make a legitimate case to be OK with letting Bowman or Willis go. If Lynch can add a better pass rush to his game, they could move him to the weak side, trade Brooks and Bowman/Willis and still have the best linebacking core in football with Smith, Lynch, Borland and Bowman/Willis.
Something else I have noticed is that we are really missing Glen Dorsey in the middle. Justin Smith is getting the same push he always does, but Ian Williams and Quinton Dial aren't getting enough of their own pressure and holding the center/guard enough to let him do his thing.

Whoever it was dropped that 4th down catch too, they just didn't bother to review it for some reason. The one replay they showed from the backside had the ball sliding around under the receiver before he rolled back over with it. The Niners knew it too with the way they hurried the next play.Havok wrote:Boldin caught 6 for 93 and a TD AND had 4 MASSIVE drops. This was the Sanchez I watched at USC. Confident, accurate, mobile, decisive. Man.
Jets fans have got to be fucking sick watching this game. Also I can see this hurting Rex's popularity with the fanbase. I mean, if he could have actually developed him after those first two years... they have to be thinking that. And now, what about Geno Smith? Is Rex Ryan going to squander every QB talent he gets unless it is like a Luck, Manning, Marino, Elway type talent coming out where he doesn't have to really do anything?
What is the Jets ownership thinking watching this game?

Just like McCown and Matt Flynn showed what they can theoretically do. Doesn't mean much if there is no consistency in the long run.

Re: NFL 2014 season
Well, Sanchez is the guy probably for the rest of the regular season, so he will get a fair shake, I think. If he plays consistently well he could get a starting job somewhere next year.

Sanchez went bad for the Jets when the talent around him went bad. Name the Jets' starters at the skill positions... Oh, and what was one of the best lines in the NFL has also gone belly up. When your best offensive player is a center, you suck.Havok wrote:This was the Sanchez I watched at USC. Confident, accurate, mobile, decisive. Man.

Re: NFL 2014 season
Yeah, in the right system with talent around you, QBs tend to be good. Sanchez isn't either of those guys though, lest we forget he went to two AFC Championship games as the starting QB to start his career. Neither Flynn nor McCown ever showed that level of success.Thanas wrote:Just like McCown and Matt Flynn showed what they can theoretically do. And apparently, after training camp and preseason, there were coaches that felt the Sanchez should be the starter.

I'm pretty sure they know which QB is going to run their offense better. Apparently he is a better fit and is running the offense far more efficiently than Foles did.

So looking at our next 4 games, @NYG, WAS, @OAK, SEA, they should all be wins. Our toughest is the home game vs Seattle, but we tend to split those with the home team winning. So going into the game AT Seattle, we should be 9-4. Assuming we lose that game, I'm pretty sure we can take our final two home games with SD and ARZ. That puts at 11-5. I have to look at the rest of the schedules to see where that realistically would leave us.

Pretty sure Crabs is a free agent. I think Davis has one more season, and you're probably right that they'd keep him if he's productive at all.Havok wrote:Boldin caught 6 for 93 and a TD AND had 4 MASSIVE drops. Borland looks like a fucking steal at this point. That being said, I need to see a lot more of it before I consider getting rid of either Bowman or Willis (unless someone makes me a trade offer I can't refuse). How well they come back from injury will probably dictate whose playing next to Borland in a few seasons.
On the Dorsey thing, you also have to wonder what difference it makes not having Aldon Smith on that side for the tackle to worry about. Probably makes it a lot easier to focus on Justin Smith with Skuta patrolling that side.
Re: NFL 2014 season
I'm already considering us as in the playoffs - and by that I mean we can't afford to lose another game. The big issue is you've got just two wild card spots and 4 teams in contention. Whoever finishes second in the east (DAL/PHI), whoever finishes second in the north(DET, GB), and everybody but St Louis in the west who doesn't win the division.Havok wrote:So looking at our next 4 games, @NYG, WAS, @OAK, SEA, they should all be wins. Seahawks have to play the cardinals twice, and us twice and I think that's going to tell the tale of the division. I think the west is going to beat up on each other too much to have two wild card games, but its certainly possible that the Cowboys and Lions (Arizona and NE up next) will have their usual Late November/December swoons....
I dunno man its probably too early to try and do any math. What I do know is this, if we win out then its essentially assured we're in the playoffs. Got some tough games, but it can be done.
BOLD NFC PREDICTIONS:
Arizona Fades without Palmer finishes third. SEA and SF tie for the division (goes to tiebreakers - loser gets 1st wild card, not sure how those shake out at present).
Philly wins the East, Cowboys Implode.
NO "wins" the south more or less by default.
Packers win the North but barely, Lions get second wild card.
