Not if unless your prepared to accept the stern falling off. The design only allowed for a bow mounting.

Don't listen to these penny-pinching bureaucrats, Madam President. We all know that air power rules the sea, and that sea power rules the world. This isn't Top Gun, and the Navy can't fly F-14's forever. Give me my naval Raptor, and I shall use it to figuratively sodomize the Islamofascists!

And China has mostly shit for planes, but they have a whole lot of them, and they're always looking to improve. Who's going to have to move within striking distance of their air force if they hit Taiwan? Me!

It'd be cheaper and better to develop an entirely new naval interceptor than to try to Navalize the F-22. To put it quite simply, the F-22 would have to be completely redesigned to allow it to survive carrier landings and catapult takeoffs... Better to make an entirely new bird.

Well, we likely can fit your body inside the lead TLAM.

The new F-24 is a better strike bird, and the F-22's can easily fly out of Okinawa, a competent naval commander would know he can count on nearby air force bases and assets. He would also realize that its easier to simply unload a couple SSGN's and Burke's worth of missiles onto the PLAAF and PLAN airbases ramp's and shelters rather then fighting them in the air.

I'd like the wish-lists for the Army, Navy/Marines, and Air Force submitted, now. I'll make comments after that's done, and we'll try to put something together for the 2004 fiscal year budget.

P.S. I will reactivate two of the Iowas if I can be convicned of the need, but we won't be building anything new with a gun larger than 8in.

The navy would like 6-12 new 60,000 ton LPH's as the foundation of its new brigade strength ARG's in combination with a doubling of Marine corps strength. DDX procurement to be increased to 64 ships along with accelerated development of CG-21. Funding for the construction of eight modified Arsenal ships, sixty LCS's and accelerated construction of Flight IIA Burkes is also requested The Navy would also like accelerated carrier construction for threshold 15 carrier fleet, objective 18.

Accelerated F-24/35 and F/A-18E production is also an absolute priority along with the possibul reconstitution of A-6 operations and production. Tomahawk production must also be stepped up, with the funding of POLAR procurement and the adoption of the Army Tactical Missile System to naval usage. The accusation of additional UNREP vessels is also critical. The expansion of military sealift command assets will be dependent on the needs of the Army and Air force.

Okay, here is my absolutely insane "money is no object, and neither is time" wish list.

* The Enterprise and the John F. Kennedy are already set to be replaced by CVNX in 2013 and 2018. Good. Let's mark the Kitty Hawk and Constellation for eventual decomissioning as well, and put two more Evolved Nimitz in the pipe, to be completed before 2010. Since this is a wishlist, put two more CVNX on the list as well, and pour on some money to speed the whole thing up big-time.

* Fill out our air wings, and give me some Joint Strike Fighters and Raptors too! It's no small feat, I'm sure, but I feel that no step is excessive in ensuring that our navy has total air dominance over it's enemies.

* Please recomission those two Iowas and have them sent in for a healthy refit. Sometimes there's just no substitute for Really Big Guns. They have their limitations and vulnerabillities in modern combat, of course, but I'm not going to send them blazing into the thick of an enemy fleet as if it were still WW2. They'll essentially be massive mobile heavy artillery and missile platforms. After the planes have picked off whatever can seriously threaten one, it will come in and pound a section of the coast utterly flat.

* A dozen cruisers built along the lines of the Ticonderoga class, but with those two 8" guns, and the option to put in for another dozen if I want. Our two battleships can't be everywhere.

* Start phasing out the Spruance class destroyers and put me down for an initial build of a dozen DDX, after we de-uglify the design a bit. Option for a second dozen, as above.

* Not much to say on the submarines, except as they're covered under the next item.

* Anything that hasn't been in for a major refit in the last ten years eventually gets pulled in and upgraded to the absolute state of the art. Stay on a ten-year refit cycle until everything has been through once, and then we'll go from there.[/i]

Prawn there are several things wrong with your plan:

A) John F Kennedy and Constellation are both scheduled to be decommisioned with the next few years. Nice to have a naval secretary that doesn't even keep up on current affairs.

B) There is no naval version of the F-22 and you'd be better off building a dedicated carrierbased aircraft. It'd be like navalizing the Eagle, needlessly expensive and unlikely to produce as good a design.

C) The Iowas day in the sun is over. It's a shame to see them go but they aren't worth keeping in operation at this point. Better and more efficient to use MY idea (which you've already stolen).

D) Redesigning a warship for pure aethstic reasons is a stupid idea and I'd hope that you'd understand that.

For these reasons and others I'd have you assasinated for the good of the nation. Even your fellow ministers will support me.
