Tim Tebow has broken his hand, but he done so at the best time of the season to do it. He is supposed to be out of his cast after two weeks in plenty of time for FLorida's bowl, which according to speculation will be one of the non BCS Florida bowls. (Capital One, Gator, Outback)

Rivalry Saturday begins! This will be my first Army/Navy game as a Navy Reserve DEP recruit, so its gone from fun to watch game to something with a little bit more this year. Although the biggest game for me will not be a rivalry, but part of the 2nd round of I-AA playoffs. Northern Iowa vs. Delaware, go Panthers!
Games and PICKS:
BEST GAMES:
(12) Boston College vs. (6) Virginia Tech, this game might mean more to the Hokies at this point, who have been rolling.
(14) Tennesee vs. (5) LSU, I'd like Tennesee to win and I think they have momentum, but LSU is way too good to be a three loss team. I'll be content to be wrong in this situation.
(9) Oklahoma vs. (1) Mizzou, They lost last time, but now the Tigers have momentum, a neutral field, and are a lot less beat up than Oklahoma is after the Sooners brawl with Texas Tech.
Army vs. Navy, I don't know too much about these teams except for their records, and in this game you throw the records out the window, and at the end wait for the dust to settle.
PAC-10 RIVALRIES
Oregon State vs. (18) Oregon, NO Dennis Dixon = NO chance for Oregon.
Arizona vs. (13) Arizona State, I know there are Wildcat fans on the board and it should be an intense game but ASU will end up winning comfortably and Arizona will do the same on the basketball court in a couple of months. The way things are supposed to be.
UCLA vs. (8) USC, Bruin fans are actually in a win/win situation with this game this year. Although they would love to spoil USC's season for a second year in a row, a loss would likely be the death knell for maligned coach Carl Durell.
Washington vs. (11) Hawaii, Not a Conference game per say, but Hawaii should win this game and that should get them into a BCS Bowl. Why the hell isn't Washington playing Washington State THIS WEEK though. Yeah I know scheduling is not always perfect but all 10 teams in the conference should be in their biggest interstate rivalry game at the same time! It's good for the conference, it's good for the fans...I just don't see it. Kudos to Ty Willingham though for not being a doormat like the guy in his former job.
California vs. Stanford, In a year where the Bears almost reached the top of the mountain, this is he last big chance for the season to be remembered positively in Berkeley. Stanford used up all of their karma points at USC and it was evident against Notre Lame.

Did you happen to see the article on ESPN.com that speculated what would happen if American college football worked the same way the football leagues in the UK do? The article had Minnesota being demoted out of the Big Ten and Northern Iowa moving into it.Darth Fanboy wrote:Rivalry Saturday begins! Considering UNI defeated Iowa State (who beat Iowa), and Drake this year they are clearly the best college football team in Iowa.
My cousin is in the UNI Marching Band so I've got to pull for them.
Arizona is at that point where I'm just happy if they are one of those teams that other teams would rather not play. Mike Stoops can't seem to get the team up to speed until midseason so I just keep hoping for something like the days when no mater how terrible or mediocre the Wildcats were they found some way to not lose to ASU. I think there was a stretch at one point where they were 5-0-1 against ASU, knocking them out of the Rose Bowl a couple of times. The tie was actually the best one for me because they were getting their asses kicked late in the game and in the space of a couple of minutes nearly pulled out the win through a bunch of fluke big plays.Darth Fanboy wrote:Arizona vs. (13) Arizona State, I know there are Wildcat fans on the board and it should be an intense game but ASU will end up winning comfortably and Arizona will do the same on the basketball court in a couple of months. As for the Arizona basketball team. I keep waiting for all the crying that's going to be happening when Lute Olsen finally retires and there's a perception that the teams aren't as good as they were under Lute. It won't have to be true or anything but the vocal fans around here are a bunch of cry babies. Every year during football season it's never too long until people are going, "How long until basketball season starts"? I can't wait until the question is "How long until the softball season starts"?

It's a nice thought, but the UNI Dome only seats 17,000, we don't get as many scholarships, also different because Minnesota at a 1-AA level would win more for sure.Tsyroc wrote:Did you happen to see the article on ESPN.com that speculated what would happen if American college football worked the same way the football leagues in the UK do? Panther fans have been bragging muchly about being state champs, it's been one of the best years for the interstate rivalry since we beat ISU when they had heisman candidate Troy Davis.Considering UNI defeated Iowa State (who beat Iowa), and Drake this year they are clearly the best college football team in Iowa.

A few classmates of mine in highschool went on into that band, there were a lot of hot chicks in that band last time I actually made it out to a game.
The bummer thing about Lute Olsen retiring is, unlike Tom Osborne, he can't win a sympathy national title in the coaches poll by tying with a better team.Tsyroc wrote:snip

VT is thirty seconds away from proving me very right and making me wish I had put down a significant bet on the game. Ah such is life.
Tennesese is up 7-3 and driving at the time of this post. Let's see how Les Miles staying at LSU affects the situation for the Tigers here.
Addendum:
Fuckfuckshitfuck, oh well.....Congrats to Delaware.

VT and Georgia are both 2 loss teams ahead of LSU in the standings, my money is on the voters handing the chance play Ohio State to the Tigers based on the fact that everyone in the media has a hard-on for LSU this year and LSU has miraculously somehow managed not to play themselves out of contention.Block wrote:Down goes WV. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. USC belongs in the NC game, but won't make it because they somehow dropped after a win in the middle of the season, which puts VT ahead of them in the polls right now.

The high school I graduated from won it's seventh state football title in the UNI Dome this year. I've never actually been to the place but I've seen it on tv and the internet a bit. Maybe it's time the State of Iowa shelled out to help get the Panthers a bigger place to play.Darth Fanboy wrote: It's a nice thought, but the UNI Dome only seats 17,000, we don't get as many scholarships, also different because Minnesota at a 1-AA level would win more for sure.
(I bet UNI is going to have the best basketball team in the state again this year as well)
Actually, I wonder how it would go if two teams in the state were both in the Big Ten or the Big 12 for that matter. I think the rivalry between those two teams would go way up. The Iowa/Iowa State one has always been a fairly mild rivalry compared to a lot of the big rivalries in college football. IMO anyway.
Yeah, that sucks.Darth Fanboy wrote:Addendum:

I watched most of the ASU/UA game. The score was closer than it should have been. ASU got robbed of a touchdown by a bad call and a bad review. That being said. Who the fuck is the recievers coach for Arizona because they can't catch worth a shit and what's worse is they have shitty technique. Far too many of them are trying to catch the ball in their arms so it's bouncing out or hitting them in the body before they even try to make a grab for it.
ASU on the other hand had several players making great catches. Arizona had one clearly excellent catch but it didn't make up for all the shitty drops.

That game might be worth it after Les Miles got his little dig in about Michigan eventually beeting OSU again. If it happens I'd like to see OSU beet the tar out of LSU to make up for sucking so much ass last year, quiet down some of the SEC wankers, and throw some cold water on that hard-on the media has for LSU.Darth Fanboy wrote:VT and Georgia are both 2 loss teams ahead of LSU in the standings, my money is on the voters handing the chance play Ohio State to the Tigers based on the fact that everyone in the media has a hard-on for LSU this year and LSU has miraculously somehow managed not to play themselves out of contention.Block wrote:Down goes WV. Now if Georgia gets in there instead go for it. SEC or no, there really hasn't been that much Georgia hype this year so it they want to make OSU their bitch I won't complain.
Since VT won it's conference and is ahead of LSU in the rankings they might deserve a shot.

I'm actually expecting OSU to take another beating (the Big Ten blows ass this year) but I really do get tired of hearing how great the SEC is and how they just beat the crap out of each other every year and it isn't fair that they don't get special consideration in the rankings because of that, and because they have a conference championship game while others don't etc...
Instead of whining about that the conference should just pull out of the BCS and use that as some leverage to push for a playoff system.
Anyway, just how many bowl games is the Big Ten going to lose this year?

Does anybody else see Illinois getting throttled by USC in the Rose Bowl? Is anybody else a bit surprised that Missouri tumbled from #1 to not even being in a BCS bowl? Also, Hawaii's in the Sugar Bowl after needing a big comeback against Washington, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Georgia bend them over. Just glancing at the Bowl Schedule. I'm having a laugh at Boston College, who has fallen from one-time number two to the fucking Champs Sports Bowl.
At any rate, it's business as usual; we're going to hear some schools bitching that they got hosed, and some people will bitch that there needs to be a playoff, which of course we'll never see in our lives.

Well, Les Miles brutally quashed any and all speculation about his leaving LSU for Ann Arbor before his Tigers went on to quash Tenessee for the SEC title.
And now, it appears it's going to be OSU and LSU for the BCS Championship.

In the other big game of the day, Navy simply curbstomped Army in their 108th meeting against one another. 38-3 and an unprecedented sixth straight win for the Midshipmen over the Black Knights.

LSU fan that I am, and happy that they're going to the big show, I have to say that for things to have gotten to this pass shows how broken the whole BCS system is.It's LSU and Ohio State in BCS title game

BATON ROUGE -- Given the emotional trampoline the LSU Tigers have bounced on this season, it was perhaps no surprise that the roar of joy that erupted Sunday at 7:21 p.m., when the team learned it would play Ohio State for the national championship in New Orleans, quickly turned to something more like numbness.
"It's kind of like a state of shock, but we're thrilled," fifth-year senior quarterback Matt Flynn said. "It was one of our goals all this season, but after we lost (to Arkansas) we thought we were out of it. You go from having your dream shot down and apparently erased, and now here we are."
After beating Tennessee on Saturday to claim the Southeastern Conference championship, LSU (11-2, 7-2 SEC) vaulted from No.¤7 in the Bowl Championship Series standings to No.¤2. Ohio State (11-1) was elevated to No.¤1 from the No.¤3 slot because of losses by Missouri and West Virginia.
LSU coach Les Miles thanked the voters for choosing the Tigers and said the team is honored by the opportunity. But, as Pittsburgh shocked the Mountaineers, Miles said, he mused over the teams ranked ahead of LSU in the BCS and concluded LSU deserved the nod. The Tigers dispatched Virginia Tech with ease earlier in the season, and both of Georgia's losses -- to Tennessee and South Carolina -- came at the hands of teams LSU defeated.
Miles had started campaigning for LSU from the moment the final gun sounded in the SEC championship, noting, as he has several times, that LSU's two losses came in triple overtime and that it was the best team in the country's best conference.
"I told our team before the SEC championship that if they could get me to the podium after a victory in Atlanta, I would do my best to tell the country how good we are," Miles said.
Flynn said as Saturday's improbable developments unfolded, hope began to dawn as the Tigers traveled from Atlanta to Baton Rouge.
"We were asking ourselves, 'How did all this happen?' as we were on the flight home," he said.
In the other big game of the day, Navy simply curbstomped Army in their 108th meeting against one another. 38-3 and an unprecedented sixth straight win for the Midshipmen over the Black Knights.

I expect that Illinois and Hawaii are going to get curb stomped.Darth Quorthon wrote:Does anybody else see Illinois getting throttled by USC in the Rose Bowl? What little I saw of the Hawaii/Washington game it looked like the Warriors were physically getting pushed all over the field. This is by a lower tier Pac 10 team (this year anyway). Georgia is going to show up for that game pissed off and ready to prove something. Plus they won't want to end up like Oklahoma did against Boise State last year.
It's cool that Illinois gets to go to the Rose Bowl but I just feel sorry for them having to play USC at this point in the year.

Yes.Darth Quorthon wrote:Does anybody else see Illinois getting throttled by USC in the Rose Bowl?
With the BCS's what have you done for me lately way of voting? Not at all. Two teams they beat are in BCS bowls. Is anybody else a bit surprised that Missouri tumbled from #1 to not even being in a BCS bowl?
LSU required like six comeback wins, and LOST TWO. Hawaii got it done every week. I've also watched them like 5 times this year. they are tougher than you think. Also, Hawaii's in the Sugar Bowl after needing a big comeback against Washington, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Georgia bend them over.
This makes me happy... No dislike for BC, but just a general hate for New England this sports year.Just glancing at the Bowl Schedule. I'm having a laugh at Boston College, who has fallen from one-time number two to the fucking Champs Sports Bowl.
No, we probably will. It will just take The Rose Bowl getting their shit together. I already came up with a bracket/Bowl system/playoff format that would work just fine and only adds a few weeks to the college season, which as with every year is no big deal since some teams, like Ohio State this year, have three week layoffs between thier last game and their Bowls. At any rate, it's business as usual; we're going to hear some schools bitching that they got hosed, and some people will bitch that there needs to be a playoff, which of course we'll never see in our lives.

As for Hawaii, you should have watched the whole game. Washington scored almost all their points in the 1st quarter. They just capitalized on a Hawaii team that came out flat and turned the ball over 4 times. There wasn't any sort of physical pushing around going on after the 1st quarter.

What i'd like to see is the WAC Champion qualify for a BCS bowl another few years in a row. Then the BCS will have to consider letting them into the party for good. And why not? The ACC gets a lame ass team in each year.Tsyroc wrote: That's good. I'd like to see Hawaii do really well. It's cool for the non-BCS schools to come in and stir some shit up.

I didn't see all of the Hawaii/Washington game either, from the sound of it I've sold Hawaii short.
I was being sarcastic/exaggerating about the whole playoff thing. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to have a playoff in College Football. Or at least to wait until the third or fourth week of the season before starting the polls. Hell, I've even heard some people say that the bowls should just revert back to their "traditional" match-ups.

I wouldn't say sold them short, after all a team that's no. 10 in the country should be able to handle a team like Washington, especially given the difficulty of being a road team in Hawaii. The only reason you look bad is because it was such a great comeback that they were able to muster.Darth Quorthon wrote:I didn't see all of the Hawaii/Washington game either, from the sound of it I've sold Hawaii short.
It must be the first week of December to be hearing that kind of talk!I was being sarcastic/exaggerating about the whole playoff thing. Bama has sucked this season. With another three to four years of restructuring by Saban and crew, perhaps they'll be competitive in the SEC on a consistent basis again.
North Alabama lostto Valdosta State last Saturday, so their season in Division II play is done.

I expect Bama to end next season ranked. They lost some games they shouldn't have this year and if they can fix the problems that caused those losses they should be ranked easily. The difference between what Saban is going to do at Alabama and what Surrier is trying to do at South Carolina is that Alabama still has a shread of meaning left when it comes to college football, South Carolina really doesn't have as much history. Alabama wants it, and they finally have a coach who should be able to recruit up against other big schools.jegs2 wrote:Bama has sucked this season. I'd be interested in hearing about this.havokeff wrote:It will just take The Rose Bowl getting their shit together. I already came up with a bracket/Bowl system/playoff format that would work just fine and only adds a few weeks to the college season, which as with every year is no big deal since some teams, like Ohio State this year, have three week layoffs between thier last game and their Bowls.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
