Costa Rica actually was atrocious. They made it abundandly clear from minute one that they were aiming for the penalty shoot-outs, since this after all had worked well for them against greece. Damn, I hate teams that play this destructively defensive.

They did all they could? And they tried to get their goal in the last 10 minutes with quite some force. Apart from a lucky (but nice) goal in the first 10 minutes the Argentinians didn't do much to deserve the win either. Pity we missed the date against Holland. The last 30 minutes against Costa Rica was intense. Nice coaching by substituting your keeper for the penalties. He seemed like an arrogant douche but he kept 2 shots out of his goal and that's what counts

I am hugely pessimistic though - Brazil got the emotions, the home crowd and the recent emotional boost on their side. And we are vulnerable to quick strikes....

I'd think as long as no brasilien player steps on the hand of the german goalkeeper (as happened 2002 in Yokohama) this will go to the Germans.

Nate Silver is predicting a Brazilian victory, via whatever sorcery it is he uses to predict these things. Many sports sites are trying to portray Brazil as a wounded lion, but it seems fairly obvious to me that Germany will have to have its best day ever to win, whereas Brazil just has to play like it's Tuesday.
