The harmlessness of spiders really has no effect on arachniphobia, guess that's why they call it an irrational fear. :?
The worst that I've encountered (in terms of size) are Tasmanian Cave Spiders. Came across these fuckers while caving in the Mole Creek area.
Now, what I want you to do is find a big fat magic marker, like the ones you'd use on a whiteboard. That is the spiders body. That is the sheet of A3 paper. You know the stuff that about twice as big as A4? Now put the magic marker in the middle of it and imagine eight lovely, long, chitinous legs expanding outwards from that to the edges of the paper.
You know have an idea of the size of these fucking things. And when you're going through a crawlspace on your back and see one barely 3cm away from your face hanging onto the cave ceiling above you....
