Ten grand? That's a very nice price. Thank you for this link; I've been thinking about leasing a new car, and I might lease one of these.Lagmonster wrote:The Echo doesn't look like much on the outside, but they're tough as shit, built really well, have great pickup out of the gate, have arguably the best city mileage of any car around, and have completely - and I mean this - unreproduced ergonomics on the inside, plus more interior compartments, glove boxes, etc. than any other sedan.

Hope that link works.

I drive a 1990 Audi 100 Quattro AWD
It has a 5 cyl., 2.3L engine that produces 130 HP and 140 ft. lbs. of torque. Doesn't sound like much for a midsize sedan, but they somehow engineered it to be able to accelerate 0-60 in ~9 seconds and achieve speeds of 117 mph (at least, that's as fast as I was able to go down I-5).
EDIT: That's not a picture of my car, just of the model. Mine's a light blue that IMO looks much better than the white car pictured above.

As for my dream car. I'd have to go with the 1956 Porsche 550A spyder.
My backup is the new Carrera GT concept car. What can I say? I just love Porsche.

Dude, when's the last time you checked your tire pressure? The front left one looks half-flat. Of course, I'm assuming that's an actual picture of your car, if not, feel free to disregard.

The only thing I can add is that my wife has had an Echo since 2000 and she has had zero problems with it, and even though she drives it to work and back every day, she only fills it up with gas three times every two months.Dalton wrote:Ten grand? The manual version gets 34/41 MPG and the automatic 31/38 MPG (city/highway).Dalton wrote:Lagmonster wrote:The only thing I can add is that my wife has had an Echo since 2000 and she has had zero problems with it, and even though she drives it to work and back every day, she only fills it up with gas three times every two months.Dalton wrote:Ten grand? Sure you want to lease it, though?
Wow, I want one.
I still think I'd rather have a new Protege though.

Not my car. For one thing, I don't have a house... It's just a pic I found using google. It is quite surprisingly the right color.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:Dude, when's the last time you checked your tire pressure? The front left one looks half-flat. Otherwise, I drive a '92 Toyota Tercel. Yay. Awesome gas mileage though! And it's a good little car, I think it will drive forever.

Re: My new car
Make sure you sell it in three years or the service costs alone will bankrupt you.Dodge wrote:I'm getting a new car next weekend.
I've had some shitters, never more than £500 in value, and now at the ripe old age of 37 I've decided to throw tradition to the winds and get a loan for a decent motor. I'm getting a BMW 520i SE.
What car do you drive? Which was/is your favourite?
I'll post a picture of it when I've got it.

My wife is incredible as well but I won't go into details (you'll have heard them all before).Lagmonster wrote:You need a Toyota Echo. My wife's is incredible.Dalton wrote:What I want in a car:
1. One that runs well.
2. One that can get me from A to B.
3. One that won't cost me a fortune in gas.
4. One that does not to be repaired every three months.
5. One that has two doors and is suitably large enough to fit me.
My 91 T-bird fits the bill in every department except #3 and #4.
I'm getting rid of my Nova GTE in favour of the 520i SE. I realise that it may be a little slower than the Nova, but I'm after something that fits the items 1 to 4 above. I need a 4-door and it has to be larger than the Nova.
The 520i Se does 130mph, is fine for motorway travel (which is something I do quite often, going 300miles+ twice a year) and big enough for my daughter's luggage (and with some room left for the other 3 of us). The Nova was pointless as its luggage/passenger carrying ability was unimpressive. We had been using my wife's Nissan Micra, which was roomier and had a larger boot, but its 1.0 litre engine found the journeys hard work. Mind you, it's never gone wrong...
But I have decided. 520 it is. In a few years time, I'll probably go for a 525 or 530 (or if I'm rich a 730i).
May the Force be with you, and remain with you... always.

It's nice. A lot of people really, really need a fast, sleek, or expensive car. I'm not one of them. I could easily buy a fast, sleek, or expensive car, but I don't like driving that much.Dodge wrote:I'm getting rid of my Nova GTE in favour of the 520i SE. Add to that the fact that I'm six and a half feet tall with shoes on. I've TRIED sitting in sports cars, even bigger ones like Corvettes, and it's an exercise in neck pain. The Echo is inexpensive, easy to maintain, cheap to run, and as long as you take a little care of it, will last forever. Unlike any other sedan, you step directly into it instead of bending over double and sliding in. You drive it like you drive a van, sitting up, not lying down. It's a commuter car in every sense of the word, designed for constant sitting at red lights with the engine running, and dodging around crowded parking lots in an urban setting.

Well, I've got the BMW ahead of time (just couldn't wait) but I must have done something wrong in a previous life, because the following events presaged my new acquisition (yesterday was a nightmare!):
I left work at lunchtime, went home, got changed and sorted out my paperwork for getting insurance etc and handing over the Nova to the car dealer.
Then, I thought I'd take a couple of pictures of it before it went, and I then threw away all the crap that accumulates in a car over the years (rubbish, used condoms, etc.) and somewhere along the lines here I mislaid the keys...
I wasted an hour hunting all over the place (including places I know I hadn't been near), ran after the binmen who had just then taken away the bins which I had used to throw the crap into, and generally pulled my hair out. Then, I thought I had better assume that the keys would not return.
I then ran around the house, collecting all the spare keys, and found all except the one that disarms the immobiliser. Darn it!
Panicking, with a blood pressure of 10 bar, I phone the car dealer, then the place which had installed the immobiliser (but which had been taken over by another company). Their man was on the road, and couldn't get to me until 5pm or later...
...well, eventually, he must have taken pity on me because he came and took the immobiliser off (at a charge of £40!) and I was away!!
I managed to sort it all out, and finally (at the end of play) I drove the BMW home.
It's slower than the Nova, but more than makes up for it with everything else (comfort, smoothness, electric everything, better stereo, alarm, electric everything and electric everything)!!
I'll take a picture tomorrow, and hopefully at some point I will post a picture in these forums.
Drive safely!!
