But of course! GREAT IDEA!

I'm slowly starting to get tired of this same old 'WEE ssimply n00000k'em',
do you even realise that since WWII not a single nuke has been used in any armed conflict around the World??? What do you think is the reason???

You expect one nuke to destroy facilities mostly built specifically to withstand late 1950s Low megaton yield nuclear blasts, which are also spread over thousands of square miles of mountains? Sure..

Replace 1 nuke with, 200 B-52s each armed with 4 B61mod11 Earth pentrators attacking in waves of 50 planes, each wave dropping a bomb into a crater blasted by the last wave until the bunkers finnaly crack..

I think it's only fair to mention at this point that these concepts (if one wishes to dignify them by calling them such) have been brought up again (for ridicule) on SB...

Why? When would you ever need a fully automatic 155mm piece?
The Swiss probably cant set up batteries of 155

You know, there might be a reason none of these 'ideas' has ever been deveoped.

Manji wrote:How about an artillery weapon consisting of a massive gatling gun, where each of the six or so barrels was a 155 mm artillery barrel. A high cyclic rate should be possible. Not as high as those of the G.E. Minigun or the GAU-8, but maybe about 800 - 1000 rounds per minute.

An even larger system could perhaps be built for a sea based platform... where each barrel was a 16" gun. The ROF would likely be lower again, but still might be 400-600 RPM. This would require changes to ammunition though... currently, naval ammuntion does not come as a "round" comprising both projectile and propellant, but instead, the projectile and propellant are inserted into the barrel seperately. An actual round of ammunition in 16" caliber would need to be manufactured in order to enable this weapon to function.

I'd suspect he got the idea from Total Annihilation.
