I heard that Tokyo was considering major rearmament in the face of increasing Chinese/North Korean power. They should at least discuss the possibility with Washington. After all, both the Chinese and Koreans would love to butcher the entire island; that's no secret.

I can't say that it would be a bad thing. We'd have a very powerful ally in the region who would be more than capable of slapping the shit out of NK all by themselves. If China ever got too big for their britches, a joint US/Japanese military juggernaut could check them easily.

Japan actively hides and denies its own past action sin WW2 and the 1930's from its youth and the world. It is still hated by much of Asia with very good reason. Until that changes I'm very happy to see Japan maintain a purely defensive force.

Heard and understood. But we have to look at the future rather than dwell on the past. That type of dwelling is exactly what's holding back progress in the world. Let's see, how many times have we heard this rant in America: "Hey, my great-great grandpa was a slave; GIMME FREE MONEY!!!! What? You won't? YOU RACIST WHITE BREAD MOTHER FUCKERS!!!"

This kind of crap has just been reinforcing the color division in this country.

Japan is our ally and their well being is crucial to our economy. I can't overstate that enough. As it stands now, if the Asian Commie Bloc goes richter on Japan, they'll need the USA to go bail them out. Tokyo needs to become more self sufficient.
