Now, seeing as the topic was "Metallica and Theology" as opposed to "Metallica and Lovecraft", I feel a certain sense of latitude in posing this question:
What theological background would you ascribe to the members of Metallica, based on the lyrics of their music?
I would posit that they are Deists, whether formally acknowledging this themselves or not -- their lyrics give a view consistent -- in some part -- with a pseudobiblical morality, and yet they are comfortable enough with fictionalizing explicitly Christian mythological elements to use them in the music as well.
Quick Question: Metallica and Theology

You may just as well regard this as insane ramblings, but there is a portion in the game Final Fantasy VII where the background music sounds very similar. Like "I ripped off a dozen or so bars and looped them" similar. It was driving me crazy the first few times I heard it, 'cause I couldn't place the song. I dunno, maybe it's just me...

You know, it probably isn't. It seems like just the kind of mind-fuck/punnery that a japanese composer might use...
