I'm talking modern day. You'd have to name a modern day air battle where the USAF or RAF or whoever has been seriously involved and had to get into a knife fight. It can still happen, but if you're BVR munitions aren't taking the enemy out at 30 klicks, something's wrong.MKSheppard wrote:Tell that to the US Navy and US Air Force Pilots who tangled with NVAFAdmiral Valdemar wrote: Being a fighter pilot is getting more boring anyway, we're getting into an age of going up in the sky, seeing a blob on the RADAR and pushing a button then confirming a kill and landing. That was caused by unreliable missiles and idiotic ROE. Considering the need for visual identification, they might as well have left their AIM-7s home (which in any case did not cope well with the shock of carrier landings and the humid climate).MKSheppard wrote:Tell that to the US Navy and US Air Force Pilots who tangled with NVAFAdmiral Valdemar wrote: Being a fighter pilot is getting more boring anyway, we're getting into an age of going up in the sky, seeing a blob on the RADAR and pushing a button then confirming a kill and landing. The latest AIM-120 and AIM-9 varients are much superior. A gun is stiff useful as a backup, but that's really what it's for now.
