Wow, I might take this. I only have 6 gigs on my hard drive. I don't know any of my other stats though.

On the other hand I have the best soundsystem for my computer. Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard feeding a Kevin Gilmore Class A headphone amplifier which drives my Sennheiser 580 headphones. This setup has better sound than a $3000 stereo system.

KGCA headphone amp (redesigned miniaturized circuit board)
BTW, those are silver conductor RCA interconnect cables, no skimping on quality there.

For some odd reason, with my new motherboard I can't get my Athlon XP 1800+ to go past 1.1 GHz. It's supposed to normally run at 1.5 GHz, at the default FSB speed of 133 MHz and a multiplier of 11. However, it's rather unstable at that speed, so I've resorted to running it at 100 MHz with a multiplier of 11...

$2000 will get you a top computer. A $1000 computer should be able to run
most games pretty well. I upgraded my computer for EUR 1000 and got a
Nforce2 board, Athlon 2200PR, 1GB RAM , 80 GB HD and a Gforce4 Ti4200
with 128 MB RAM.

My computer at home is a Dell PII 266, running Win95, with the ever-powerfull Voodoo3, still runs great. Bought an XBox to save myself from having to upgrade.

My work computer is a Misc. AMD 1.4 Thunderbird, Win2000, with an NVidia Quadro2.

OK, it's not my main computer, but a computer that I reassembled for my father to use for ham radio is a 486 DX (33MHz) with an amazing 8 MB of RAM. Well, at least it has a CD-ROM, even if it hardly works with new CDs...

LOL... yeah.

My primary laptop happens to be an IBM 486 DX4 (100 MHz) with 24 megs of RAM. It's actually a pretty decent performer for its age.

You built a Gilmore?? You've got some soldering skills.

I was thinking of an HD580, but decided not to. If I get some headphones I'll probably get some Beyerdynamic DT770s (closed headphones are your friend!)

I can't tell much of a difference between so called "High quality" audio and "Medium quality audio". What exactly is the point of spending so much money for a marginal increase in quality? I rather spend money on eye candy- graphics cards, large monitors, etc, etc. Too bad I don't actually have any money.

Apple IIGS hardwired to a rickety old television set from the late 70s with a keyboard mising most of the caps. No Audio, and yes it was hit by Y2k.

Fortunately it never gets viruses though because the viruses themselves are too large to be held by my meager Hard drive. And look! I have floppy disks! Real Floppy disks! The five inch kind!

I'm a certified thru-hole/surface mount and rework technician, which means I know which end of a soldering iron to hold. :P I should also note that I have 2 Gilmore amps and a tube amp as well as a pair of Senn 495 headphones.

A quick search of the head-fi forums reveals that they've gotten to you, unless that's another phongn on that board. Thankfully I don't have noise problems to worry about so I can get by with open headphones. Screaming siblings huh? Good thing I'm an only child... :D

I'd probably have trouble making a cmoy, much less one of those superamps. :D

Yes, my wallet trembles in fear. I didn't get any headphones though, but my sound system consists of mostly used parts off of eBay. A Rotel RB-951 50W/ch amplifier, a NAD 1240 Preamp and a pair of Axiom M3ti bookshelf speakers. It sounds very, very nice.

I did get my sisters a pair of Koss PortaPros for their birthday back when they were on sale for $20/ea. They love the things.

My dad has a pair of cheap wireless headphones, but he usually just listens to the TV when on the treadmill so he doesn't care about the sound quality.

No audio on a IIGS? Shame on you!

(And those keyboards can easily be replaced by anything that uses the old ADB plug).

I had a IIGS with a bunch of drives daisy-chained together, it looked absolutely absurd.

Depends on what you call "high quality" and "medium quality." I have what many would consider a "medium quality" setup, as with my grandpa, and they do sounds good. My uncle has a higher-end setup that blows either one away (it sounds fantastic).

Many can't really tell the difference, though, some can. If you ever go shopping for audio, what's important is what you think, but keep an open mind and stay away from Bose :P
