I managed a similar trick on spacebattles.com. I was a newbie for a long time with not a single poke aimed in my direction. The key is not to advertise your presence by posting threads like:

HELLO FORUM!!!!!!

It does`nt guarantee you won`t get poked,you could reply to a topic someone will reply to your post and poke you anyway.

Its a rule of mine to lurk at every place before I post. I lurked ASVS for about 2 months before I first posted there.

I lurked SDnet for a while before I joined, then I semi-lurked for a while longer...

I just do the old lurk and leap. I lurk for a while to get to know things, register and then just jump in. I started slowly here but now I'm one of the top posters.

I did the same on other boards and it worked.

). I almost made it out of the Newbie rank too.

I think having an avatar, sig, and location from post 1 helped a lot. As well, I don't think I started any new threads of my own until somewhere around 70 or so.

Bwahaha! I escape pokage entirely, although I think it depends on whether you want to start posting as a 'newbie' or a 'nooB', the former are those who know forum rules, have read the stuff and will probably be posting on more than one forum.

The latter are those who sign up on impulse, on the spur of the moment, and may be posting on a forum for the first time, or hell, maybe they just like being poked.

Come on, you can't be such a crippled man!

Use a picture editor program. Even the stupidest pic. editor can do a resize. (note: use pixels for measurment, NOT millimeters!)

After you've chosen the desired pic and resized it to the required measure, go to the profile menu and chose "Upload Avatar From Your Comp.".
Write in the path and there's your avatar.

On the other hand it's all in the Announcement Forum and you should read before you start posting...

To get back to topic...

I simply joined the flow when I started to post and managed to avoid that childish "poke-mania". (OK I had some later...)
I think it's the best.

Who the fuck cares that you've arrived if you didn't say anything else yet that can be judged?

I think no one. At least I usually don't care about n00bs and their "I'm new here!!!" threads.

You get one by shrinking the image you want down to the required size...
