This time, they had no illusions about a cakewalk; they knew they were hopelessly under-equipped and under-armed and that they would be facing thousands of armed militia, with no timeframe for reinforcements. But of course, they don't hesitate for a second because they've got to go get their guys. I know that's the code, but it's still quite a thing to see it dramatized like that.
I appreciated for that exact same reason! It was a good movie about human courage and character, and I didn't find it preaching; American's are right! stigma, and that elevated it much more in my opinion.

I wound't call the generals comment an error of omission. It is a clear misrepresntation of events. It makes it look like he thought his force was insufficent for the task. In reality he did not.

Though in hindsight, armor would have been of very limited utility without 5 times more troops, and 10th mountains Cobras would have provided better support then the single AC-130 which could have been over the target area. However no one thought to send to to aid the convoy or the crash sites.

Darth Wong wrote:World War II is absolutely fascinating to most of us, I think, because of its sheer scale and the many moral issues raised (some of which become more complex the more you study them).

Nevertheless, my favourite war movie lately is actually "BlackHawk Down", which takes place much more recently. Maybe it's just WW2 overload, or maybe it's the fact that the Mogadishu raid took place during my lifetime.
The best war movie is Das Boot, directors cut.

Dr.Zhivago is good in that it portrays the revoluton.

1. Das Boot
2. All Quiet on the Western Front
3. Saving Pvt. Ryan
4. We were Soldiers
5. Black Hawk Down.
