Most of the time I'm a happy guy, but sometimes I get horrid depression, mainly because soon my life will be leading no-where.

Yup.....though it says a lot when you're the one explaining about cognitive behaviour models to the mental health proffesinal....

And at the very least this stuff is better than the Cipramil they had me on before....it had a reaction like a mild form of LSD on me.....

I have the same thing as Captain Lennox. Used to take Prozac, recently told my drug deal...er, psychiatrist that I've been fine without it so now I'm off, finally. 8)

This country alone has had an explosion of depression since the 20th century. We are doing something very wrong in society for it to be like this.

Either way, I now refuse to take medication for such a thing because I don't beleive in numbing my emotions artificially.

I had it quite bad one summer. For most people it seems it is just a phase...Still though, people didn't have it like this way back when.

There is easier access to health care nowadays, and a much greater availability of anti-depressants. They get advertised on tv like tic-tacs.

I think depression rates in this country have been the same, but because of the widespread use of anti-depressants nowadays more people come out of the woodwork to get treated.

But you're right, psychiatrists have been reduced to pill-pushers nowadays, leaving counselors to do the emotional scutwork.

Fortunately, a lot of people do grow out of it around the age of 25 or so. I don't think anyone's figured out why yet.

As for the pills, a lot of times they are necessary, but they aren't a complete solution by any means. They have side effects (Effexxor made me tired all day when the dosage got to 300 mg/day) and they get less effective over time. The only real way to combat depression is 25 or more minutes every day of cardiovascular exercise that gets your heart rate up. I know it's a pain in the ass, but all of you who suffer from depression like myself should try it. I swear to you it's like fucking magic.

Also, therapy is a must. Most clinical depression comes from physical chemical imbalances in the brain, but figuring out and relieving oneself of mental burdens really makes it easier to deal with the depression, even if the two aren't even related.

Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but I still think the best remedy for depression is to get laid.

Ithink the cause of depression is the inability to get laid.

Well, between mental self-conditioning and a little Wellbutrin, my depression is safely under control.
