Are bears really so common in Canada that it is neccesary to carry around pepper spray to fend them off?
P.S. Faram pepper spray isn't illegal in Finland, you just need a permit to be able to buy some and you'll need a proper justification to get such a permit. Fighting off bears isn't going to hack it.

Know full well what you mean. We were going into Saskatchewan and dad had left his pistol in the hotel room, but he carried his can of mace. We went through the checkpoint, and when asked if we had any firearms or weapons, dad said he had a can of mace. The officer said, 'Sir, I am going to have to confiscate that from you.' So, dad replies, telling him he is a law enforcement officer with a state and federal commission, but, the border patrol officer STILL won't let him carry it, even after showing him his badge and commission. That, I thought, was the height of stupidity.
