The world is going to hell, and the funny part is the shear number of people who are in complete denial or ignorance of this fact. As MkSheppard pointed out we're getting our rights and freedoms slowly taken away "for our own safety" or "for the children" whatever the hell the cause of the day is. "Feel good" laws and measures are getting punched through, and people don't realize that these measures don't do a thing to fix problems, they just eat a piece of our freedom away.
Take airport security for instance, I had the joy of flying into Newark a month after 9/11 last year. Sure the place was crawling with security and national guardsmen, but other than harrassing the hell out of passengers and causing delays they weren't doing much at all. I got my carry on x-rayed as usual, and I went thru a metal detector as usual, and they asked me a bunch of retarded questions. So other than the increased number of security guys and baggage searches, and the "no knives" policy they actually hadn't changed a thing. You wanna see stupidity? After going to all this work to keep knives and sharp objects out of the planes, they gave out knives and forks with the in plane meals, good move Sherlock.
At least they've wised up and are going with plastic utensils now, but that was fucking stupid.
In any case, thanks to those terrorist assholes the government has now convinced us that being hassled and inconvenienced by rent-a-cop security at an airport is SOP, and people have accepted that. With every tragedy the government finds a way to make the laws more restrictive, wheather or not it does any good at all. As for the rest of the world, it's going to hell too, I can be quite sure that within the next 50 years you won't recognize current maps of certain parts of this world. I don't believe there's peaceful resolutions to some conflicts, those conflicts will only cease to exist when certain countries are wiped off the face of the earth.
