At my school, the band and the orchestra got along well, considering they were mostly the same people. It was the choir who were the fucking dorks. And about the whole outsider vs. jocks thing...if anybody gives you any shit, just kick their ass. Don't worry about "stooping to their level" or any of that crap...just go wild on them. They don't really want to kill you, and it's surprisingly easy to beat on somebody when they're not expecting you to. They'll act like they won later...but you'll know the truth.
And about dates...just go with a friend. If you honestly don't have any friends of the opposite sex, then stop what you're doing right now and get some.
