I don't think I've even been in a town that small.
Well, we have a couple neighbourhoods, a few stop signs, a church, a dry cleaners with some as-of-yet unidentifiable Asian alphabet on it, railroad tracks, and a small quarry. The closest post office (which belongs to another town) is a 15-20 minute drive. That's it. Oh, but we also have lovely wooded hills, a few streams, and three waterfalls. It's quite lovely.

I'm not really a city girl. In case that wasn't clear. :P

My hometown has approximately 500,000 in the greater area (250,000 in the city limits). The city I'm currently living in (Santiago, Chile) has about 5.5 million.

P.S. I'm waiting for someone from Hong Kong, Tokyo, or Mexico City to chime in.

I have lived my entire life in Santa Clara, CA, which had a population of 98,726 in 1996, according to the US Census. I believe we've since broken 100k, but it doesn't really matter, since (as I'm sure TPJ can attest) city boundaries around here are effectively nonexistant; you don't much think when travelling from city to city, since everything is continuous.
Really I consider my "home town" to be the San Jose Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (as termed by the US Census), which includes the cities of San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, and others. This area has a population of 1,682,585 (ref. 2000 Census).
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Deptford, NJ: Population 26,763 as of the 2000 census, up 10% from 1990. It's sorta misleading to go from the population of the township, though, because the municipalities all sorta run together (I'm sure the other suburbanites here would recognize the phenomonon).

Loreauville is a small town with 1000 to maybe 1200. I have no affinity to it I live atleast ten miles out of town, I just go to school there. I go into New Iberia which is 70,000+ to do any business.

I don't really have a hometown, technically speaking. The area where I lived is labeled as being part of Marietta, GA, but it isn't really. It's a suburb that falls under the jurisdiction of Cobb County.

Boca Raton. Incorporated + Unincorporated is around 70,000 people. Even with all these people in such a small area, they STILL make it feel damn open, grrrrr....

A few thousand short of a million in 2000, and I'm pretty sure we've broken the 1 million mark since then.

On the topic of small towns I was driving around near the coast and saw one that said "Popul: 47"
