I'm a tad surprised that furries are notorious enough to get on a list like this. However, I'm not surprised at the description. That's a real nasty reputation problem there.

I'm 3/10, 4 if I could find an rp group.

Incidentally, I wonder how the writer sorted this list. The rankings seem to have nothing to do with the percentages attached. Going by mean values, it should go more like this:

10.Scrapbookmaking (might be second if you count NA as 100%)
9.Furry
8.Vampirism
7.Comic books
6.Star Wars
5.Rpgs
4.Star Trek
3.Everquest
2.CCGs
1.LARP

2/10. I seriously protest the fact that wargaming and non-sports video gaming isn't on the list.

2/10 at worst (SW and ST). I can't honestly claim to be a staunch fan of either, though (not to the point of going to the theater a month early to see Ep1, dressing up, and so forth).

Either 5, 6, or 7, depending on how "devoted" one must be. I've LARPed a bit, and it was V:tM, but I wasn't a real big player.

And the only ones I'm safe from are the scrapbooking, Everquest, and furries *shudder*.

This is hilarious. I cracked up.

I got the comic book thing. Superman is the character who inspired me to start lifting weights and body build. Even have a little statue of him on my desk here.

I do, however, hate Everquest. I have never liked the whole fantasy genre (elves, paladins, wizards, etc). Maybe that can counteract my comic book nerdiness so I am sort of in the middle?

Yeah, the same for me. I usually fit in anywhere except the higher echelons but I prefer to hangout with the stoners. Mine is 1/10 for Star Wars though I've never entered SW attire a few people still know I watch SW.

One of my friends is a Live-Action Roleplayer and he's not socially ostracized because of it. And while single, I'm sure that he could find a girlfriend if he wanted to - he certainly has better social skills than most of his acquaintances.

I don't read American comics, but I do read manga, so I guess I get #10 and #7.

Honestly, I think they're blowing a single niche of the entire fetish out of proportion and applying it to the whole. Most of the furrie-related stuff that I've seen on the Net has almost exclusively been erotic anthropomorphic illustrations. And the two most common trends of that seem to be depictions focussing on male homosexual activities, and that many furrie artists are surprisingly really fucking good at art.

And not to offend anyone on the board, but I have to totally agree with the view on vampirism. Role-playing is different, but in my opinion you can't get any more lame and pathetic than to actually act like you're a vampire...

Exactly. Them and Vanity Faire, MTV, ER, CSI... Even you calling furry a fetish is indicative of the problem.

What about Yerf? It has a lot of the better artists without all the porn.

But yes, quite a lot of furry material is about sex. This is the internet, after all.

I'd have to say the list fails to address the fact that in order to take the hobbies they list to the excessive, obsessive extremes they mention, you'd have to be a socialy-inept, sex-life-deprived, public humiliation-material geek in the first place.

It's like tallying up a list of things that'd 'lower your car's ability to run well', and they're all "Is there a big fucking hole in the carberator?", "Is there a huge fucking crack in the engine block? ", "are the sparkplugs blown to shit?", "Has the crankshaft snapped in half?"

Well, in the same sense that anyone of those problems will fuck your car over, any guy who introduces themselves to a woman with the additional comment "...But I am also known as Edwin Rosebumble in the local Harry potter roleplaying circles!" probably comes off as charming to her as an old boot. A little grounding in sanity and reality should cure both obsessive hobbies and delusional social quirks.

 I loved that one.

I technically qualify under Trek, Wars, and definately Comic Books. I've never dressed up as a Trek/Wars character I do have a few comic book related t-shirts (no Green Lantern though :) ).

While I have tons of vampire books I have never ever come close to resembling a vamp except for having a night job and sleeping during the day. The whole dressing up like a vamp on a regular basis seems like too much work, plus I can't see it holding up well in the heat. I'm also guessing it wouldn't be too popular with the hospital administration or our patients. :D

Still, upon walking into my house what is going to scream "geek" instantly is all of the Godzilla stuff around my house, even if it's not on the list.

I think Star Wars and comic books depend on the degree of obsessiveness. There no real shame in admitting to be a fan of comic books or star wars unless you have other geekish tendancies to go along with it.

Using Franks methodology i'm 0 for 10.

A friend of mine is in a LARP group here based in Queens University and they reckon 1/4 of their players are women, sexually active women, and some are actually quite fit. I'd join but the gods didn't invent enough time in a day for me to engage in all the hobbies i'd like to do.
