If that's true, then count me as a Satanist.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is Hedonism focusing more on self-indulgence? After reading the FAQ, I got the impression that Hedonism is part of Satanism.

Hedonism is the pursuit of pleasure and the philosophy that what is pleasant or has pleasant consequences is intrinsically good. Then they add magic. Which is what makes it a religion i spose.

IMHO Satanism is more comprehensive than Hedonism since it has "morality points" like Do not harm little children or Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the person and he cries out to be relieved. IIRC Hedonism doesn't concern itself with such matters.

Ah, something that resembles theocratic islamofascism, without the
"kill all unbelivers!" message

I don't see why having morality points resembles theocratic islamofascism

Another informative site, more polished too =)
Stupidity -- The top of the list for Satanic Sins. The Cardinal Sin of Satanism. It's too bad that stupidity isn't painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. Satanists must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid.
Gotta love it.

Yeah, it's weird, they steal the satan character from christianity and say stuff like he's killed God and the like . They can often be eclectic mixes as well, with "dark gods" from all over the place, like they might worship satan as the lord of all, coupled with Odin, Kali and Shiva.

They probably listen to alot of black metal and take it seriously.

Usually they're young goths who don't realise how it's sort of silly rebelling against christianity by believing it's true and then following the baddie.

Somebody who takes Venom's lyrics seriously does indeed have issues.

In fact, I'm convinced that the stereotypical image of "Satanism" is created partly by various metal bands, partly by various B-grade horror movies.

Funny about the timing on this. I was around a new friends place at uni the other day and he decided to introduce me and someone else to "Death Metal" and how great it was  After about half an hour of my ears being tortured we started talking about how Death Metal bands aren't about music or a message but are infact just attempts to play into idiot teens of the world to make money. They attempt to spread a message against the government, capitalism is wrong, yay anarchy. Yet they are the ones cashing those checks from all the CDs those morons buy. Eventually we got sick of arguing and I mentioned "Death Metal bands are just like Satanists, infact the bands try to play into being Satanist so they can make more money from more stupid people. Odds are most Death Metal fans ARE Satanists." He disagreed and the night continued.
Not even an hour later by chance he is getting something from a shelf and out falls the Satanists Bible :D He had a hard time defending his bands then.
History? I love history! First, something happens, then, something else happens! It's so sequential!! Thank you first guy, for writing things down!

I think he means that they both expect you to believe in supernatural things they present absolutely no evidence for and present a moral code that, while it has many good things, also has some very iffy things (Number 6 on the rules thinger is a rather good excuse for stealing) and you'd really just be better off making your own morals as best you can from whatever makes sense to you rather than taking one with such obvious flaws just because it's already written out.

It is, but there is big difference between those two: Satanism doesn't mess around with individual freedom.

I really don't understand why they word their commandments that way. I haven't heard of any Satanists of their kind "destroying" people who merely pester them. Did they think that it'd make them look tough/controversial? It just makes them look dumb in my opinion.

I'll have to disagree with you there - it's actually far from all Death Metal bands which have political lyrics. For example, Morbid Angel's lyrics deal with mythology, and Nocturnus' are more inspired by sci-fi than anything else.

I - who knows much more about the metal genre than most of my acquaintances - have found very few anarcho-communist metal bands. (in fact, only two - Timebomb and Red Warszawa) Most metal bands endorsing political extremism are usually Nazis of some sort.

Agree. Where essentially their morality is decent, they sound it so bombastic and full of hyperbole that it looks dumb on the first glance.

Hey, if a satanist starts to give me shit, I'll follow their commandments
and "destroy" them with .22s to the kneecaps, followed by sledgehammering
in their heads....after all...ITS YOUR RELIGION (TM)

A satanist shouldn't be bugging you according to their religion. It's not like i kill christians for ignoring the sabbath now is it?

Want to know what other "trendy" religion tells it's followers to destroy
it's enemies?

Yep, that lovable place called the Church of Scientiology.

Your simply replacing the 10 commandments with alternates and replacing Jesus's godhead with Satan. As i said before i don't like any organised religon because i disagree that another person should be able to dictate your beliefs and make you follow a code of pracitce. Religon exists for no other purpose than to take power from the masses and give it to me in dog collars or similar garb.

Many religions do, the few that spring to mind that don't are hinduism and buddhism, AFAIK.

Something worth remembering for you guys is that memebers of the CoS don't actually worship Satan or use 'magic'. All their rituals are essentially thought experiments and meditation. They're not like idiot wiccan who put hexes on people, they use the concept of Satan-as-Man to actualise themselves. There are no mystical energy fields in their belief structure, simply an unusually theatrical form of meditation. Hence the seeming idol-worship etc.
