That's the way Duffy wanted it, I think. He didn't want to give us his opinion on the Brothers and that be the end of it, he wanted us to decide for ourselves. A lesser movie would have had the Brothers kill a few innocents accidentally and used that as a basis for condemning their vigilantism, but not this one. They carry out their actions ethically, and would never even consider hurting an innocent.

The key here is what they consider innocent. If memory serves, they slaughtered people who were jerking off to titty dancers, with no other identified crime. Were the guys in the Sin Bin aside from Vincenzo guilty of anything?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was more than that. They recognized the other two at the place. They knew them and one of them said he had been wanting to kill one of them.

Besides, at the end, they seem to imply that they go for hardcore evil. With the whole varying degrees of evil and warning not to cross over into their domain.

It's not like they're fundies and go after Willem Dafoe because he's gay.

I'm not sure about that. It's a fucking hilarious scene, but I don't know if it would have fit in with the pacing of the film. It sems to work better as a footnote, so to speak.

The general consensus among the cops was that the guys they killed were bad guys, and Willem Dafoe definitely thought that they weren't innocent.

Mafia footsoldiers, pimps, or drug thugs. They weren't innocent by any means; it's just they were small fish compared to Vincenzo.

Comparing the description of them vs. Ron Jeremy's character, and the description of the Russian bosses vs. the soldiers from the alley, they seemed like they were probably Italian mob soliders or peons.

And remember Murphy's lines about we're all levels of filth, but don't cross the line into true corruption and then they talk about not murdering, raping, or stealing. Considering all this, and the fact they checked the peepholes for their appearances before offing them suggests they recognized them as criminals (if they were automatically guilty just for being there, why were Connor and Murphy unconvinced of the Sin Bin as a target until Rocco said it was a mafia haunt? Why would they bother to check the peepholes if they're crime was just going to the Sin Bin--the dollar through the slot confirmed there was someone there for that).

They had to be criminals, IMHO.

Yeah; Smecker was definitely the authority on the mob scene too. And notice even though Rocco did do errends and help out the Mob, Murphy and Connor never felt he was evil, and Smecker never identified the guy as "street walking scum" or "peons" like the others. They must've been violent or extortive criminals--he'd know, afterall.

EDIT: In fact, no hint of sexual repression or squeamishness comes from the Saints. They didn't give a shit about Rocco's disgustingly slutty ladyfriends, and made all kinds of lewd comments all the time. The idea they just killed them for going to whack at a titty show just doesn't seem plausable to me, but I may be wrong.
