Why no to a forum?
Because someone might accidently link him into a thread in there and he'd be forced to hear more inane crap about the Iowa Hawkeyes.

If it's a usergroup I don't think that can happen.

Still, while we might all be geeks, it's a common enough interest that... you know... WHO FUCKING CARES if somebody gets linked to a sports thread by accident?

I don't think there's enough demand for an entirely new public forum (and there are other topics that deserve a whole forum more than sports anyway).

This has come up before, and I voted no then mostly because if we keep filtering out topics from the OT then there will be nothing left in OT but anal sex and Straha's polls.

Sports threads jump durring football season (Yeah, the new national pass time) and on off season there is an occasional post about other sports but not much.

Doesn't make sense to either make a new user group nor a new forum just for that. At its heigth, there is what? four threads in the OT about sports. If you don't like sports then its hardly diffecult to scroll pass them.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Knife is pretty much correct. In fact, I predict that the same thing will happen at the height of Basketball season, too.

Topic trends in OT surge up every so often. That's really all there is to it.

I'd agree to it, as another forum, but only on the grounds that it won't be dominated by american only sports. The english premiership is at it's height. There is always sport of some kind going on otherwise i'd not have 8 sports channels on my TV.

I would say yes to a new open forum for sports. Though, like Pounder stated, I would like it to cover international sports rather than just be dominated by American sports. I would love to hear people's thoughts on the English Premiership especially since I do cannot have many conversations with people on this topic due to the fact that most poeple aren't interested in soccer around this area.
