What if the way elections are done in Canada were change to resemble the US,wich mean the whole country could chose who they would really want as Prime Minister,so Canada would never again be stuck with a PM from Quebec province?
In the United States, most people don't actually vote. Only certain people are allowed to vote, and of those people, only about half vote themselves. Even if they DO vote, it is not up to the people but the electoral college. They really have no obligation to follow the whims of the people. They make the final decision. The founding fathers did that so the commoners would not be able to choose the president due to masses. They wanted to "ensure" that a good, intelligent president would get elected, for the people were not to be trusted with such affairs.
An example of this could be found in the failed election attempt of Jackson and the future 2000 election. It's not up to the people. Our democracy is more heavily based on Spartan system than the Athenian system.
