i happen to sympathize with alyrium, it's a hard life to lead, even harder still because it's not a choice. i know. it's the wanting to be with someone yet knowing that if you ask someone, you're likely to either get beaten to a pulp, or ridiculed, at least that's been my experience. gays are harder than hell to find, even harder still are the ones who actually want a relationship. it's people like mksheppard who make us live in constant fear. people like him have also been responsible for hurting and killing many innocent people just because they're gay.

Shep is a classic social workers' head-case. He comes from a broken home, he has a criminal record, he is filled with resentment at a wide-ranging variety of social groups, probably for getting the sympathy that he feels he deserves, his dialogue invariably revolves around violence, he is all at once racist, homophobic, and sexist, etc. He is so archetypal that it's almost difficult to believe he's real. If I saw a character like that in a movie, I would say he's way too stereotypical and two-dimensional to exist.
