On the forum becoming BOTM Pt. 2: I understand the concern, but remember that the BOTM was founded basically as a goofy spam forum that took a lot of sex talk because, 1, it's private and thus membership can be controlled (though that argument falls apart unless all the minors have been kicked out and I didn't notice), and 2, this is a board full of perverts. So far as I'm aware, there's never been a serious effort to stamp out spam in the BOTM (why in the world would you?), so I don't think it can be held up as an example of a forum conquered by the spammers in spite of the mods best efforts.
OT has never devolved into a spampit despite certain members' best efforts. I see no reason to assume that it would automatically happen in S&R, though I'll agree that the mods and supermods will have to keep a close eye on it in the beginning.

PEOPLE GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS. HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THAT THE BOTM IS FUCKING 18+ ONLY FOR A FUCKING REASON???
Sorry. Had to get that out.
No, it would NOT be a second BotM because the BotM is basically just the spampit (though there are things less spammy in there). The BotM is specifically 18+ (except for the members that joined before we made that decision because we [a] didn't want to work retroactively, and had no way of telling WHO was under/over 18).
Thirdly, I support this forum because there are people here who might well NEED it. Many of us don't have lives outside the computer, either due to our choices or otherwise. Besides, this may well be one way to help some of our younger members mature both emotionally as well as mentally and socially.

I vote no, on the basis that OT and HoS is perfectly fine for discussing sexual problems. I just don't see the need for a whole new forum (Or usergroup?). Just my opinion. I mean, I see the virtues in it being easily searchable and not needing to visit the archives for a specific item.
OTOH, it wouldn't hurt anything, I don't think, I mean, it wouldn't exaclty use more bandwidth to have it, since the threads in there would invaribably end up in OT or the HoS anyway..but hAving such a forum may encourage more people to post there. Good luck to the mod of that forum and the supermods, as I think that before the rules of said forum are established, implemented and understood, they will be a point of contention for awhile.
At any rate, if the mods are up for it, more power to them.
I still want my sports usergroup![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Why scatter similar threads throughout two forums with two completely different sets of rules? That makes no sense, especially when there are lots of those threads.

I disagree with the thought that somehow OT and HoS covers anything relevant sexually.
Barring the occasional useful thread(jmac's is honestly the most recent I can begin to remember) it's usually either bitching or conquest stories.
I have minor reservations about it, but I can see the forum becoming helpful and useful.

i'd vote yes. It seems like a good idea, but i'd personally say give it a month or two on a probationary period to see how many people post in it, the type of threads getting posted, etc. That way it's easier to gauge how useful the forum would be rather than simply voting no and not seeing whether it'd work at all or not.

I vote no, because simply put, how much sex advice can be given or stories told that hasn't already showed up in the OT/BotM forums already? There is only so much one can say about sex and sexual experiences before it gets repetitive, and repetitivness leads to boredom, and boredom leads to spam.

How LITTLE information is there for relationships? If its in the BOTM, not everyone can see it. If there was a relationship\sex forum, it would greatly help.Larz wrote:I vote no, because simply put, how much sex advice can be given or stories told that hasn't already showed up in the OT/BotM forums already? Also, I say put the relationship part above the sex, I see it as less importent.

I vote yes. The simple fact that relationships and sexuality are things that people grapple with every day leads me to think that there would be more than enough traffic to sustain it. We can loosen necromancy laws (developments in relationships can happen over periods of weeks or even months), make it visible only to members (keeping it safer for work and school browsers), and keep down the number of really explicit threads (chex0rz t15 h4rdc0r3 f33ti5|-| pr0nz0r!) and it answers most of the objections presented.
There are many topics this forum can cover that are not liekly to come up 'round the dinner table (bisexuality, peer pressure to ahve sex) that older members can offer guidance on, and younger members can ask questions about (because we don't all wnat to ask the public health nurse some thigns in front of our classes). I don't see how anything but positive discussion can come from this, but even if it does turn out to be a horrendous flop, we can always shut it down.
And Castrate Straha.

Actually, most if not all usefull relationship and sexual advice/discussion threads I've seen pass through the OT forum.Ace Pace wrote:How LITTLE information is there for relationships? I still think that there is a limit of advice concerning sex and relationships that can be given (and most of it has already been given in the OT forum, over and over and over again), but I do suppose it couldn't hurt to create it for a while and then destroy it after things begin to repeat.

This would be true, if every situation was the same. But as long as there are different situations happening in life, different experiences with different people coming to light, there's a virtually limitless source of conversation topics.Larz wrote:I still think that there is a limit of advice concerning sex and relationships that can be given (and most of it has already been given in the OT forum, over and over and over again), but I do suppose it couldn't hurt to create it for a while and then destroy it after things begin to repeat.
Pretty much. And I'd add, like Mike said some time ago, no bragging in there either. That can be reserved for OT, and detracts from the purpose and usefulness of that forum (it's about advice and tips, getting help and whatnot; if you're bragging about it, you obviously don't need much help). The Aliens wrote:I vote yes. And whether or not it will turn into a spampit...if rules are set up and enforced, I don't see that happening. Like I said, the biggest "spam" would be bragging threads, and those could simply be outlawed.
Or, to make it easier, just lock any and all threads aerius starts on site.

And I think RedImp very well handled the "it'll kill OT!" arguments.

Agreed, There's heaps of "I broke up with girl" and "What should I do? I met this awesome girl" threads on off topic as it is...Ace Pace wrote:How LITTLE information is there for relationships? I vote yes for the simple reason that ever since All About Sex was nuked off the web i've been searching for something serious about relationships and sex that wasn't flooded with porn and idiots. (you can find plenty of either on the web as it is so if it degenerates to that then it needs to go but otherwise I'm all for it)

One of? It's *the* biggest forum on the board. By a factor of almost THREE to the next one down the line.Lord Pounder wrote:I remember similar discussions when the Games and Computers forum was introduced, and when GALE was proposed. Yet dispite the usual "OT will die" complains the OT is still one of the boards biggest forums. In short i say aye.

SLAM is a place to discuss science, logic and morality. Those things are related to sex and relationships only in the most general and specious a way. It's a significant enough topic to warrant its own forum.

SLAM can cover some of the ethics & morality that's involved in sex & relationships; for instance incest, polygamy, & age of consent, but I don't think it works when it comes to relationship advice & sex tips, which is what this new forum will cover for the most part. Somehow I don't think you'll want to see topics in SLAM about oral sex techniques and which way of using the tongue feels best.Son of the Suns wrote:I don't think there is any signifigant reason to create a forum specifically for serious discussion of sex or topics related to it due to the availability of the SLAM forum for such discussion.

BOTM is a spam pit that's taken care of by a mini-mod. It's not suitable at all for serious discussion unless ver wants to start imposing the same standards on it as we do on the other forums or let the supermods do it for him.evilcat4000 wrote:I think since we have BOTM for sex related matters we dont need another sex forum. Interested people can simply join BOTM if they want to discuss sex.
So please people, stop suggesting BOTM as a substitute for an actual forum; it's not. Our public forums are held to much stricter standards in terms of post content because that's what is required for a serious discussion forum, like a Sexuality and Relationships forum.

FOR THE LAST GODDAMNED TIME: THE BOTM IS FOR 18 AND OLDER MEMBERS ONLY. THE BOTM IS NOT A VIABLE SUBSTITUTE FOR SEX FORUM BECAUSE THE BOTM IS OF NO USE TO UNDERAGE MEMBERS.
And no, I don't want to impose strict restrictions on the BotM because that's not what itwas created for. Yes, there are sex-related threads in there, but they have more to do with actual sex and less to do with relationships or advice, which is the kind of forum we're going for.
So please, people, PAY ATTENTION. The BotM is NOT suitable for use as a relationship tips forum. Specifically because of more than a few threads in there.
