And I haven't figured out this "Petal around the rose" shit.
I'm awful at Maths and I'm studying English and I haven't got it. Admittedly that was before reading the hints on this site- I was trying to look for a numerical pattern or something of the sort. Maybe I'll try it again.

I got it, but I don't think I get what the name has to do with it.
I assume that:
The rose is the dot in the middle of the dice and the petals are the dots around it, hence why 5 counts as 4, 3 counts as 2 and eveything else as 0 because they dont have roses.

that system worked for me.

Motherfucker.

I can't believe I didn't get it. And I can't believe I wasted so much fucking time thinking about something so incredibly stupid.

:x Perfect end to a perfect day...

[EDIT] Now that I've had a chance to calm down, I can honestly say that it is pretty clever - in a stupid sort of way.

That took me all of two seconds to figure out... maybe it's something to do with me being more of a visual person. :?

It took me some thirty minutes of feeling like a complete idiot to finally figure out the game. How long does it take you?

I think it might be my literariness that helped me, Z and GR get it - it's not the "smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out." - which is bollocks, but that the more numerical in your thinking you are. The four of us that seemed to get it quickly are creative types who read a lot. I'm guessing those of you who took a while are more mathematical in your thinking, no?

(the odd thing is that my brain is actually becoming more literary. i bet this would have taken me hours in school)
I disagree with that hypothesis darling. I mean I do read a lot, but I am definetly a maths head, my spelling for example is very poor, but my maths skills are above average (or were, you know what I mean).

Fuck, I honestly can't for the fucking life of me figure out just how the fucking hell I'm supposed to figure this fucking little piece of fucking shit out. I simply have no fucking clue how to "count the cunt-ass fucking petals around the bloody communist roses," for Christ's Sake. Somebody please just fucking tell me: I'm no longer amused by this "game."

It of course doesn't help that for some reason the display is screwed up and doesn't correctly display all the numbers in the answer field like it should. There may be like one number in the correct place, say an 8, but with a partial 1 and when highlighted and dragged a 4 appears above the end of the answer sentence...

It took about 10 rolls of the dice before I spotted the pattern, and another 5 or so to confirm it. If you want to speed it up just go "roll", "check" without entering any numbers into the box.

Here's how it works: only the dice with a dot in the center count. These are the "roses". The dots around the center dot are the petals. Thus 5 has four petals, 3 has two, and 1 has zero. Add all these to find the answer.

Got it on the first try. By pure guess. I couldn't see any roses so i just put "0" and got it correct.

Edit: Reading the other responses it now makes sense.

You know, it's interesting to see people's reactions...I wonder if Petals isn't more of a psychological evaluation tool than a simple game ;)

Took me three rolls, about three minutes or so. I switched gears from "fucking complicated" to "fucking simple" after the second. Oddly, I got the first one right off the bat through sheer chance.

Well, for one, the title should be count the petals around the ROSES, plural. Read the posts above for the actual answer.

And BTW, I had the hypothesis right after the first roll, but due to a counting error thought I had messed up. That took me a while to figure out. (I got 13 when the correct answer was 12. Looking back later, I realized my mistake.) And I'm a Math major/graduate, so I don't see how that is a negative.

ROFL. I took a different interpertation of what it means by "petals around the rose" and developed my own little algorithim that works but is completey different than that.

I had a similar problem - I was definately on the right track for quite some time, but it took forever for me to actually work out the answer.

What was your interpretation? I took the one mentioned above (and also thought that "roses," plural, would've fit better... but perhaps being too easy).

By the way, here a quick PHP version I popped out earlier today... I plan on making it look nicer later, but that works for now.
Later...
