Housing prices in Australia vs averege shitty pay for a person just entering the work force makes it a very bad prospect to go house huntting.

I can't speak for Australia but a well groomed goatee is pretty common in Silicon Valley. It is not going to keep you from getting a job, but I don't think I've seen a lawyer with one.
