"People Are Strange" - Echo and the Bunnymen

Which has the added bonus of being used for a great film too.

Favorite right now's probably "Cars"-Fear Factory and Gary Numan

Any Weird Al cover's usually good though, same with Apocalyptica.

Bruce Springsteen's "The Ghost of Tom Joad" as done by Rage Against the Machine. Marvelous.

It's very good, but it doesn't quite have the sense of loneliness that Bob Seger's version did.
For some reason, I have to say that the Metallica version captured the lone-wolf spirit better. Seger's was kind of depressing.

The Grateful Dead's "To Lay Me Down" as performed by the Cowboy Junkies is my fave at the moment.

Goddamn Durandal, you really have to stop stealing my pics.

Indeed, Metallica's "Turn the Page" was a perfect example of how to do a cover song, keep the spirit of the original but inject more flavor.

I also have a somewhat guilty attraction to The Offspring's version of "I want to be Sedated"...

I think White Zombies covers of Sabbaths 'Children of the Grave' and KC and the Sunshine Band's 'Im Your Boogieman are top banana...

The Beatles 'Twist and Shout' is cool too.

Dave Matthews' cover of All Along The Watchtower. I just remembered how much that kicks ass.

Hrm...
For sheer accuracy, I actually like Shadows Fall's rendition of "Welcome to the Machine."
For stuff I actually like, though, Groove Daddy's cover of "Subdivisions" by Rush.

All The GNR covers here mentioned are pretty good.

I also like Dave Matthews Band's cover of All Along the Watchtower and Long Black Veil (although it would be nice if Dave could be a bit more suitably morose while singing it).

The king of all covers, however, has got to be Johnny Cash's cover of Trent Reznors's Hurt. It FAR surpasses the original - Johnny really sounded like he was feeling all the pain in the world when he sang that song.

Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb, because i'm a whore for the Scissor Sisters

Travis did a godlike cover of Hit Me (Baby One More TIme) on the Mark and Lard show. When i heard it i was so impressed i fucked up a computer i was working on.

The Misfits cover of Ballrom Blitz was good

Yellowcard did a cover of Everywhere by Michelle Branch that was quite good.

its classic cos it sounds like two guys down the pub, trashed... singing Britney Spears.

I don't really understand the Scissor sisters phenomenon, who did comfortably numb first?

I'd have to agree there.

Fear factory - Cars & School, both superior to the originals by quite a lot.

Machine Head's cover of Message in a Bottle is superior to the original too.

Cannibal Corpse's covers are good, better than their actual songs, No Remorse and Zero The Hero I think are better than the originals.

Someone, I can't remember who it was, I guess Scissors Sisters, looking at the thread, covered Floyd's Comfortably Numb, one of the few covers I like.

Let's see, Disturbed covering Shout, but only because I didn't like the original, Disturbed's version was enjoyable.

GnR, Live and Let Die.
