http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg12-e.htm

While the M60 has many of its own design elements, it did draw from some other designs and MOST of those came from the MG-42. That in itself is not a bad thing since the MG-42 is a very well designed weapon.
All they lifted was the BELT FEED. The majority of stolen designs
came from the FG-42...

*******

It was a bit more complicated than that. A couple of MG 42 guns were acquired by the USA during WW2 and they tried to modify them to fire the .30-06 round under the designation T24. Unfortunately they messed up the conversion from metric to inch measurements so they never worked and the two now reside in a museum. After the war the US set out to design a new gun based on the belt feed of the MG 42 but using the action of the FG 42 (paratrooper automatic rifle). This was known as the T44 but wasn't satisfactory. A later, considerably modified, design known as the T52 was the ancestor of the T161 series which became the M60.

*********

After the war, the US Ordnance Corps decided to try and convert the FG42 automatic rifle into a belt-fed version. Taking a very direct approach, the belt feed mechanism of the MG42 was grafted onto the side of a FG42G rifle. Testing of the T44 started in December 1946, and quickly proved what the Germans already knew about the FG42...it was simply too light for sustained full-auto fire.

In April 1947, the improved T52 was introduced. The feed mechanism was moved from the left side of the receiver to the top. With later variants, a quick-change barrel system was developed, with fixed headspace and timing. This permitted the rapid change of barrels to prevent overheating during sustained fire. In contrast, the earlier Browning MG designs required headspace adjustment each time the barrel was changed. The gas system was changed to a short-stroke/tappet piston based on the 'constant volume' system. Ideally, this system would not require adjustment of the gas port.

In April 1951, a competing weapon was introduced, the T161. While similar to the T52, the T161 was designed with advanced mass production techniques in mind. By August 1956, the T161E3 had beaten out the T52E5, and on January 30, 1957, the T161E3 was standardized as the M60.

Fuck the pansy little 42, a quad KPV mount can spew out twice as mnay rounds, which will also pierce over two inches of armor and be lethal at five miles thanks to having over twice the energy of .50 BGM.

Now all you need is a BTR-50 to haul it around..

I like the M16a2. Its a blast(both literall and metaphorical) to fire. And I like the 'poppop' noise it makes when you shoot it.

Barrett M82A1. It's obvious. it's cliched. But fuck it, it's a .50 calibre sniper rifle. How can it fail? :)
I always liked the Galil... right up until I heard that the plastic parts break easily if the weapon is dropped. Don't know how true that is.

You don't take the gun hunting, you take a laser designator for the copperhead rounds it fires. 19 pound HESH vs. deer..

M109A6 is pretty mobile, you can drive it up most hills and many mountains. Or you can just fire over them.

Hmmm.... Maybe the CAR-15 or the SAW, for modern firearms. I think that the Kentucky Rifle is probably the most revolutionary weapon, ever, or maybe the original Mauser. Obviously the AK-47 is a truly spectacular weapon, but I still don't think it's as effective as the American arms of the time (I find it ironic that the Vietcong were trying to capture M16's while the Americans were trying to capture AK's). Perhaps the gun that I love to hate is the French Lemaye. It was so bad it was funny!

AN-94 (note- it's AN-94, NOT AK-94- the designer isn't Kalashnikov, it's Nikonov)- official rifle of the Russian Army (in low-rate production, hasn't replaced the AK-74M yet- but it will)

Machine gun, the good ol' M60.

Pistol, Beretta 92F

Carbine, M4A1
Unless you mean an older version of the M60, its a bad choice. The current version can fire no more then 100 rounds at fully auto before the barrel overheats.

IMO the German MG3 is a superior MMG.
Where the hell do you get that? You change the barrel when the weapon starts to display misfires or a bread in the cycle of functions. Or generaly after about 10 minutes of sustained fire or 2 minutes of rapid fire.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots.
