In most other churchs they're picked up one at a time leading to much less press. The Catholic Church just made a much more public scandal instead of simply getting rid of the preists.

Yeah, the Church dealt with pedophiles in one of two ways:
A) They merely reprimanded the priest in question, or.
B) They approached the families of the victims and offered them tidy sums of money to keep quiet . . . what, did you think all the money in the collection plate went to helping the poor and downtrodden?

Even now, there's no serious talk from the Church about actually excommunicating pedophile priests, so it's still gonna be business as usual.
