You need to make friends with people with IT jobs. We laid off so many people at my last company that there are tens of pairs of Harmon Kardon speakers laying around for the taking. Not the best in the world, but really good ones for free. I got a pair before they laid me off. Helps to be IT.

I got a nice chair from a company down the street. They pulled out and left behind all the furniture so the landlord let us take what ever we could carry out.
