I figured as much, but it seemed worth pointing out, just in case.

I have to admit, I've heard that song so many frickin' times that I could play it with my toes while sleeping, but I will have to bust out the vinyl before seeing TTT :)

Ooh yeah! :D

It's one of the most beautiful and powerful songs I've ever heard.

It's truly one of the greatest songs in rock and roll. Overplayed at times, (Stairway to Freebird anyone?), and one of those songs every guitar player learns to impress girls (guilty), but all for good reason.

It's no suprise that 20 some odd years later, it's still one of the most requested songs on the radio.

Hah, I hear that :P But I still rock out to the second half of Freebird.

Remember Wayne's World? :D

Tell me about it. I hear it almost every day and it's usually either the live version or the awesome live performance from The Song Remains the Same (which I have never seen but do enjoy more than the studio version, a rarity. "Do you remember laughter?").

Hmm, it's the first half of 'Freebird' that I really love. Is that me just being a chick again?

You're not the only one brutha (guilty again). Too, every "top 100 rock songs ever" show I've heard on the radio ends with #2 Freebird, and #1 StH.

I saw Skynrd once, and that was the general reaction in the crowd when they played it. All the women were swaying and singing during the first part, and all the guys were playing air guitar by the end.

No, I'm not old enough to have see them before Van Zandt died :( but an awesome show all the same. Still have the t-shirt somewhere...

haha the three of us have high-jacked this thread quite nicely, haven't we?

Nah, probably more of an emotional difference. You love hearing the words, probably, since they stir certain emotions, but I love the music since it emotes, for me anyway, far more than words ever could.

What about VH-1? I remember the #1 bands, but not the #1 songs.

Bands..hmm...IIRC, the top three were AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix and Zep as #1.

Well, it's still sort of on topic :)

Do you remember how VH-1 compiled the list? This isn't flamebait, but I wouldn't put AC/DC in the top 20. Trust me, I love AC/DC -- I wore out a vinyl copy of Back in Black in high school -- but IMO, there's a great many other bands/artists deserving of the #3 spot.

VH-1 compiled the list by sending questionnaires to bands and singers and shit, I think.

Supertramp is pretty good for a nice, mellow 2am road trip. A nice wind-down band for me :D

The Beatles: Greatest Hits 1962 - 1966
The Beatles: Greatest Hits 1967 - 1970
John Lennon: Greatest Hits
David Bowie: Greatest Hits (1968 - 1980)
Queen: Greatest Hits Volume 1
Blur: The Great Escape
Pulp: Different Class
The Cars: Greatest Hits
"Greatest Ever Glam Rock Album"
New York Dolls: New York Dolls (I don't own it yet)

Elvis Costello, Blondie and Meatloaf would be borderline choices.

I bought "The Definitive Alice Cooper" in October. How does the album "Hey Stoopid" (1991?) compare with his early stuff?

It's a bit more early 90s (sounds odd, but Alice does move with the times).
It'as heavier, sexier, and more intricate musically - contains guest spots from Ozzy, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai; Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Slash.

It's rather different, but if you like 70s Alice, you'll probably like 90s Alice.I personally don't think the Alcie Band were quite as good musicians as those that he works with on his solo albums.
