Not in my experience. I buy Memorex CD's.

I take it TDK is a decent brand for CDRs as well.

The more expensive CD-R most the time are actually worth the money, the memorex seems to be a very good brand (wish I had used it before I the aluminum on some of my music CD's bubbled) Another thing that can help prevent aluminum decay (or at least help it from evovling to pealing off) is adding labels to the CD's. The labels actually help preserve it from peeling so easily.

Which is only made worse by the fact that MoO2 was one of very few games that required the CD in the drive to play [EDIT: at the time]

You generally cannot tell which CD-R is cheap and which is not simply by the brand name. The only way to find out is to determine the manufacturing plant - there are certain known good ones. TDK, at least for awhile, used a good one (the ones with the deep blue dye) though that may have changed. Kodak was known for their excellent CD-Rs, but they dropped that business since most people were content with junk CD-Rs.

I reckon you're better off getting the blank CD-R media which has the fastest burn speed. Don't know whether Memorex is good or not, nor any others. But the cheaper the worse, if you take my meaning.

Scratched beyond repair... That's how all of my brother's CDs are. He doesn't bother putting them in cases, leaves them lying around, and after a few months, they're so abdly scratched up that you might as well buy a new CD, but by that time, my brother isn't listening to them. Once, he borrowed one of my sister's CDs for a plane trip, and put it in the backpack he was carrying, without bothering ot put it in a case of any sort.

It happens here as well; CDs left data side up (for safety?), their cases not far away... I despair, and do not permit my own CDs to be so neglected.

I grew up with few valuables, and tend even now that I am on a good wage to look after everything as if it is the last thing I have. Blimey, I've just paid £80 for a service on a Seiko watch I've had 18 years. Some things are worth more than mere money.

Actually, it may be better to leave them shiny-side down. The data is stored, essentially, underneath the cover label. You can repair a scratch on the bottom but not on the top.

This reminds me of the marketing/advertising campaign that surrounded the release of CDs as a media. Shows were demonstrating that you could spread jam and marmalade on the CD and it would still play... D'Oh!

(They were spreading it on the top of the disc; suffice it to say, this was completely lost on me. As if people were at that time spreading jam on their vinyl records...)

I generally regard advertising methods as an insult to the intelligence of the public at large.
