It is personal information, that is not usually public. It would fall under unreasonable searches and siezures. In fact, until this was passed, it was treated as such without a warrant.

I've found that to be very uncommon these days.
]]

Why do think that is?

I only know when I was a senior in HS (1989) that just about everyone's politcal views were pretty close to their parents. After working for a few years, being in the military, finishing college, etc people open up to change.

And Im not talking about being rebellous or stuff like that. Im talking about who you might pick for president.

Well, semantically speaking, I'll just say that I'm glad he has not proposed to outright rewrite the Constitution like Hillary Clinton.

Having said this, the National Security business is going a little too far...

To automatically assume that Republicans are all freedom-hating statists
while Democrats are the only defenders of liberty is pretty damn idiotic,
considering the Democrats' past history of screwing our freedoms over

And who screamed that this was fucking stupid? Me. So stop pretending that I'm being a hypocrite by treating Shrubby the same way I treated Clinton when he tried to pull that bullshit. The big difference, however, is that Shrubby is actually SUCCEEDING. All the more reason to cry foul.

Well I don't know what it's like over the other side of the atlantic, but here in Britain you more or less have to vote Tony Blair in since everyone else is quite blatently incompetent.

Don't get me wrong, I think Tony Blair's a traitor to his party, though amittedly the labour party did need a reform, and an idiot who will wreck the economy sooner or later with PFI, it's just that the mere possibility that the Tories will get back in basicly scares the British public into voting labor.

I say roll on PR.

Otherwise, you should be going independent
Yes! Throw your vote away!

Seriously, though, why? None of the sheeple will vote indie. The Independents don't have enough money, recognizition, and canidates backing them. The visible ones are rather poor choices in themselves- why the fuck would I vote for Ralph Nader?

You say this as if a normal vote accomplishes something.

Democracy would work a lot better if idiots weren't allowed to vote. However, idiots ARE allowed to vote, and they outnumber us.

Democracy is rule by idiots. It is only fitting that it occasionally elects someone who is manifestly, obviously an idiot himself.

Could someone explain what Al Gore may hypothetically do, or what Bill Clinton tried to do, or what partisan voting has to do with the fact that the current administration is taking away our civil liberties?

It has nothing to do with it. It's just that Republicans are so accustomed to attacking Democrats that it's their standard reaction whenever someone says something bad about a Republican. Rather than deal with the fact that the current administration (as if anyone should give a shit whether it calls itself Republican or Democrat) is doing bad things, they simply imply that any other administration would be doing exactly the same thing, as if they wouldn't be earning our ire if they did.

It's a nice evasion tactic.

Do you understand now? I know I am probably not structuring my resonse very well, and will try to write a better one later/
Please point out where keeping a log of transactions is against the US Constitution. Private companies and Citzens are already subject to examinations of there credit reports, bank statments and perchases BTW, its called a tax audit.
And a tax audit is a due process procedure. The IRS doesn't care about you outside of doing their audits. The information collection agency is collecting or will be collecting information as a matter of course - business as usual. That is an invasion of privacy described in both the 5th and 14th amendments of the Constitution.

I believe that was just a Simpsons reference.
It was either Kang or Kodos who said it after Homer revealed that they where impostors masquerading as Bob Dole and Bill Clinton

Yes, someone said that they'd vote independent so that neither Kang nor Kodos would be elected, and one of them said, "Go ahead! Throw your vote away!" Then it cut to a scene of Ross Perot punching through his hat.

As such, Kang was elected, if memory serves.

I still vote on Props and local elections, but I have become far, too cynical about the National elections, which by and large are simply being BOUGHT. It doesn't matter who the "Head" is, it all seems to be getting people in place for the interists of whom ever paid them the most money. And you see, that niether side is ever going to do anything meaningful about the "Good Old Boys Club", Corprate & Foriegn Lobbing, finance reform, etc.
