I think it's a good idea. There do seem to be a number of homosexual members, and they would likely be more comfortable talking about those issues amongst themselves. So sure, why not?

I can see Bean's point on the creation of yet another forum, but let's face it, if homosexual and bi members of the board want to have their own forum why not? Its not like there's only one or two of them, there seem to be a fair number and who knows how many more are in the closet even here in internet land. This could be a nice place for them to be themselves and feel comfortable.

Personally, if the cum squirting in your eye when you jack off threads can be kept on the new forum - so much the better

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Well, while the poll says otherwise, the people speaking their minds in the thread seem to mostly support the idea, particularly those who would actually be members of the group. So without further ado, I introduce the latest usergroup, GALE Force (get it?).

I made a completely random decision and made Frank the group moderator, although I guess you can talk amongst yourselves and elect a different one if you'd like, or if Frank isn't around enough/active enough to be suitable. Click on "usergroups" to apply.

PS. It would be somewhat amusing to add MkSheppard to the group just for laughs, but I refrained from doing so

I don't think they're being discriminated against out here. If they were, then we would most certainly have a problem, but this is a rationalist board and I see little chance of that. The few homophobes that spout their ignorant attitudes around here normally get smacked down for it.

As for "they want one", we have private forums for military members, women, people who want to talk about military vehicles, two forums for people who want to flame/attack/invade trolls and other disreputables, and one that seems to exist solely to serve as a clubhouse. So I don't see a problem with giving the gays and lesbians a group because they want one.

Women-They need a forum Wong, its matter of international sanity that they do, some things are better shared amoung one's own sex

The Military Forum is exuisable as rare is it that your avarage Civilian can understand half the things said so often do we laspe into lingo

Two forums for the Anti-Troll fokes, One which is effectly defunct and should be gotten rid of (AIIF) and one which servers a vaulible purpose in helping combat board invasions

The ATF is a nessary board, The AIIF is not and I said as much as soon as I heard it was created, The Mess Hall is pushing it but comes close enough I feel for now anyway its still warrented

BOTM is our place for pervision plain and simple, Its where you go for generaly all around naughtlyness

Or do you feel we do better without the BOTM and instead move all that stuff into Off-Topic?

There is a point at which you simply have to many forums, one of the reasons why we don't have an Aussy only or a B-5 only

BTW, I added a few members based on responses in this thread, but anyone else can simply click on "usergroups" and apply. The group mod (Frank) can approve those requests by clicking on "usergroups" and approving members in the queue.

I honestly don't see a need for the BOTM; it's a clubhouse. But as I said, I don't think usergroups necessarily need to jump through a lot of hoops to justify their own existence, unless they propose to do something which is already duplicated by an existing usergroup (or the forum at large), hence the question of whether we should merge the ATJ and AIIF.

Display is not the problem Mike, its removing one more disscusion topic from the main forums is the problem

Or do you think Ein and Co are ever gonna start any Gay Rights Rants/Raves in Off-topic or SLM Forums agian?

The problem is not the usergroup, its the removal from the poll of topics

Compare say, Gun Rights VS Gay Rights, both of them are intresting suggetes and well worth going around the group getting opionions and aurgments from all sides, GALE is gonna remove on of those subjects just like a Gun Rights Forum would remove that

The Mess Hall therfor is dangerously close to the edge of removing the topic, but due to its Heavly Lingo strew posts and numorus short-hand refances combined with topics mostly based on PERSONAL experance it skips around the edge

To sum the above up
And usergroup that does not contripute anything useful towards the main public boards or even worse removes somthing, should not be brought into existance

What will they disscuss on GALE? Gay Rights? One less topic for SLM, How big is to Big? Thats already covered by BOTM

See the problem lies with new Private Usergroups Wong?

Ah, I see what you're getting at. Nevertheless, I am confident that when issues of gay-bashing and homophobia come up on the main forum, our gay members will show up to slam the offenders just as they always have (those issues certainly won't come up in their own private forum).

Mr. Bean, don't worry so much. I feel that with the new forum, generating more discussions on the subject, there will be no lack of discussion of gay/lesbian issues in OT or SLaM.
