Am I the only person in the world that doesn't have this sort of thing? I only associate memories to sensations not music. Certainly I'll think of the Video to a song (if i've seen it), when I hear it, or if it's from a movie (like ride of the Valkyries and Apocolypse Now), then that's what I'll think of. However i don't link events in life to whatever the hell happened to be on the radio at that moment. For instance I haven't a clue what was playing the first time i met or danced with any specific woman, i was too busy paying attention to her and how she made me feel (or in the case of dancing, too drunk to remember anything - I Don't dance sober. :D ).
So it's more likely that a certain phrase, movement, or scent will trigger my memories. I'm always at a loss when people start talking about 'our song' or what have you, as it's simply not the way my memory works.

When I hear Pushit by TOOL, it reminds me of this time my friend and I went hiking for a week in Yosemite. Needless to say that was a long strange "TRIP" involving getting lost and then finding oneself on top of Mon Capitan. Piece of advice 'shrooms and going off the trail on pourpose does not mix well.

I associate music to events in my life all the time. There are a couple of pieces of music that'll always take me back to Germany. For example Men at Work's 'Down Under' reminds me of dancing with a girl in Germany, when they played that to welcome us Aussies. Also Pachebel's Canon always makes me think of the girl I am interested in at themoment, as it is one of her favourites. there are other pieces of music that I associate with the most mundane activities, if I listen to them at the time I work.

When I put on any Killing Heidi and close my eyes, I'm back on the train ride from Sarah and her family at the Frankston station to meet another friend of mine, Stacey. I listend to that Killing Heidi CD the entire way to Stacey's house, and when I hear "Mascara" or "Weir" I can picture the landscape passing by the window.

Old friend of mine,
We will never lose the time that we
Shared all these years,
These years

Will you......

Will you make it in the end?
Through all the twists and bends,
Will you fulfill your dreams?
Not as easy as it seems

That music can take me back there faster than anything else. Same thing with "Get Set" by Taxiride, although since I listened to that on the plane as I was leaving, it's not the fondest memory, so I try not to let that one take me back too often.

Kick out your seat
Let's elevate
Hold on to what you know
Is gonna break

One other one, and then I'm off to bed. My brother's best friend and I had an interesting relationship, and this was his song when I was totally mad about him. "30 Days" by Jimmie's Chicken Shack. Two parts in particular:

As she wakes up
And I'm caught staring again
She asks me, 'What did you dream?'
I haven't stopped and isn't this part of it
As we lay rivers where once were streams

*******************

30 days
Without the sun
30 days
Just a little scared of what might become
And we're home when we're together
Home when we're together
We are home when we're together
30 days...

Meanwhile, back in the jungle...

I often buy cds on trips (haha when am I not getting new music) and several albums I have a forever linked to certain trips and vacations and such.

At the Drive-In's Relationship of Command will always remind me of visiting my sister in NYC the first time. A fantastic trip and we saw the band one night out on the town, and saw them later that week on Conan O'Brian. I bought the cd down in the village before I left and I always think of that trip and hanging out with my sister when I listen to it now. Good times :)

YES!! There's this obscure band called 'Saga' that has an album called "Worlds Apart" that my family used to listen to on the way to our cabin in the Poconos. That entire CD (although I guess at the time it was actually a cassette tape) brings back memories of the old station wagon, of my brother feeking carsick all the time, of driving through the PA state reserves...

Good afternoon! May I introduce myself?
With a story to be told you may need help
I know you were a headline for some time
But now you're part of a motionless mime
Lights have dimmed and times have changed
And the world is watching a different stage
Don't you think it's time we had a younger face?
You can slip away with no disgrace
So tell me...

Cool stuff. I love that CD. :D

haha Saga is only obscure to you youngin's :) Back when I was walking uphill both ways to high school in waist deep snow barefoot, Saga was a big deal.

"Worlds Apart" will always remind me of my freshmen year in college though. Fred, down the hall in the dorm, played On the loose and Wind him up at bone jarringly loud volumes every Friday after his last class. haha that stereo got him kicked out of the dorm eventually. Well that, a locked door, a keg of beer, and drunken, noisy coeds in his room after curfew :)
