The Gilmore is a surprisingly easy amp to build, it just has more parts and takes longer to assemble than a cmoy. If you don't have to build the ultra-regulated power supply for it it's actually simpler than a META 42. I was able to scrounge some PSU's from my local surplus stores so I didn't have to build the Gilmore power supply. I'm giving up a bit of sound quality but I'm not going to notice anything until I get a better CD/DVD-A or SACD player. That'll be taken care of this summer once I start working full time and get my concert tickets payed off.
Yes, my wallet trembles in fear. I didn't get any headphones though, but my sound system consists of mostly used parts off of eBay. A Rotel RB-951 50W/ch amplifier, a NAD 1240 Preamp and a pair of Axiom M3ti bookshelf speakers. It sounds very, very nice.
Rotel amps are surprisingly good. I got to hear a set of Rotel integrated amps at the local hifi shop some years ago and was quite amazed. They completely destroy your standard Sony or Yamaha "hifi" reciever amps and they could actually drive a set of Thiel speakers without crapping out. Thiels have funky impedance curves which play havoc with lesser amps.

Unfortunately my room has horrible acoustics (it's a friggen cube and echoey) and no place to put speakers which is why I went with headphones.

No audio on a IIGS? Shame on you!

(And those keyboards can easily be replaced by anything that uses the old ADB plug).
Well the audio went out after my 9000th game of Oregon Trail, and im too poor to afford a new keyboard.

How's this for a small world, one of my middle school teachers was one of the co-designers of that game. Look for "William Braund" somewhere in the credits or intro screen.

Your problem seems to be not with the game author, but with the RNG (Random Number Generator). It's a symptom that commonly plagues NetHack players; when their characters need food the most, there is none to be found, and when their characters are full, there's more food than they can carry.

Too bad almost no software on Windows uses the hardware RNG that comes with the new chips.

I think on Linux you can symlink the hardware RNG to /dev/random and /dev/urandom so you get truly random numbers for games.

If your CPU's stats are abysmal, you should put a big sticker on it that reads:

MY OTHER COMPUTER IS A HAL 9000

Mine's not a HAL but it's okay, 2.4 GHz and a 80 GB HD. I don't remember the other stats.

I've had a 133 MHz, a 400, and a 1.4 gig (? I think) that crashed beyond repair. I remember when that 133 was the absolute shit, as opposed to just plain shit :)

I said PENTIUM 100. As in 100 MEGAHERZ, that and an AMD K6 488mhz.

Not my MAIN computer, but still one in heavy use.

When I bought the Pentium 100, it was TOP of the line, best money could by.

Heeee, that reminds me of the main computer I had for years before moving with great reluctance into the late 1990s.

486DX - 33 MHz on an old server motherboard using EISA.
12 MB RAM.
600 MB SCSI 5.25" harddisk.
24X CD-ROM
Genuine Sound Blaster 16 ISA.

MS-DOS 6.22 w/ Windows 3.1. Internet access accomplished by running AOL 3.0 through a 33.6 kBps modem.

Trident ISA SVGA card with an astonishing 1 MB of video memory onboard.

I had a 1 GB harddisk somewhere with Windows 95 installed for the computer.

I still have it. Now if it weren't for the fact it comes in a fuckoff big IBM PC-AT case, I'd probably use it to play TIE Fighter.

But that's not your main computer. Besides, I can always downgrade my Pentium-120 to 90mHz, THEN I will have the slowest computer.

I still hold the title for the slowest main computer.

Well, it is my dad's main computer, and I have accessed SDnet on it before, if that counts for anything, LOL.

I've seen those plans for the PSUs, they look like a bitch. OTOH, what kind of PSUs did you buy from the surplus store?

I once tested the system in the largish family room and that Rotel amp handled the higher power load with aplomb; I was quite suprised.

My uncle introduced me to Rotel when I was first up at his house in Wisconsin - I looked on eBay at various components and the price was quite reasonable so I got it (though obviously not as powerful as his monsters). I want his SVS Subs, though :D
Unfortunately my room has horrible acoustics (it's a friggen cube and echoey) and no place to put speakers which is why I went with headphones.
As does my room, but I did have room to place my speakers next to my monitor :D
