It would be less than 50%, since there would be people who score exactly 100. Besides, the tests are adjusted so that 100 is the average score. IIRC, the WWI generation is estimated to have had an IQ of 86 by modern standards, as the test has actually become harder over the years. Zaia is right, however, since the test measures only certain basic skills, and IQ has no real bearing on how well a person will do in the future.Zaia wrote:IQ tests are bullshit and have no relevance to what American students and the American public learn concerning current events, history or geography.Dargos wrote:Please...pease...pretty please tell me that statistic is not a hard fact Mr. Bean.Mr Bean wrote:The Avarage IQ of Americans is 100

With IIRC something like 45% of Americans believing in creationism and the non-fundi rightwingnuts and rednecks making up another 10-20%, all those 'minority' nutjobs put together turn out to be a majority of the US population.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I'm a bit tired of Americans always being automatically called stupid, especially if the generalization is based on a highly visible minority (eg: fundamentalists, right-wing wackos, celebrities, etc...)

dumber than the average continental european/korean/japanese.
But this has something to do with social/historical structures.

My ass! I've delt with average Europeans and Asians and stupidity is a constant. Education in the U.S. can be found to be lacking, but that varies from region to region. Yes, let's generalize that all Americans are stupid because some of them are. Good plan.Bastard wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2491509.stm
Americans think the UK is in the middle east.
Sod off you moron.

and the historical discrimination of blacks most likely has/das a negative
effect on the average IQ.

Masses are stupid and driven to follow whomever is the loudest.
A person varies.
Thus Americans in general are no more dumb than Europeans, Asians or Africans.
To just say in general America alone is dumb and the rest of the world is not is a tad bit too much ignorance.

As a very middling American undergrad, I met and worked with PLENTY of stupid, stupid people. They were from America, China, Laos, Kentucky, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Romania, Japan, Ethiopa, and Mexico, Poland, and England. Well, they weren't any stupider than anyone else. I'm sure they were all wrong about something or other. But none of them would look at a quote from a tourism minister and take it unquestioningly over a breakdown of test scores or something which I was expecting. I'm also pretty confident that, except for the ones who could speak no English whatsoever (these got put in teaching positions), they could spot satire. But at any rate, all of them would have read the whole thing and held their thoughts until they could form one, which is more than what Bastard has done.Frank Hipper wrote:My ass! I like the fact that Kentucky got its own billing--did it secede from the U.S. and I missed it? Or have you just met that many ignornant Kentuckians?

I'm American... but I do admit that I hate the stupid Americans (like those who think I'm not an American nor do I live in the US and speak spanish because I live in New Mexico...) and further I'm ashamed to admit that there do tend to be a lot of stupid Americans (hence the game shows about common sense knowledge that well, doesn't seem that common...)

While the average American intelligence is rather deplorable, America probably has the highest concentration of intellectual elites. Why? The freedom and high standards of living attracts the most brilliant minds from accross the world. Just take a look at any good engineering college. There is a disproportionally high number of international students and professors in those departments. These are the people that are responsible for a lot of the tech advancements.

Define Middle East. If we consider America West and Asia the Far East the UK and Europe could be considered to be in the Middle East. Why the fuck should America go by European oriented naming conventions? Hell by some definitions Morocco is in the Middle East, and its further west then the UK.Bastard wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2491509.stm

And if you consider America the center, then Europe is the Middle/Far East and Asia is the Middle/Far West. This would make more sense if you're doing it from an American POV.Sea Skimmer wrote:Define Middle East. American more stupids than others people? For having elected in power one like Bush? Well speaking from one country that had been ruled for 20 years by an ex corporal in blackshirt (no offence for the NCOs) and shares the border with an other one who gave birth to an other ex corporal which ruled an other country for more than ten years with a shirt of (slighty) different color I would be the biggest hypocrit on earth suggesting such a thing.
There is no reason to believe that.
Ignorance? Well if the 40% of the americans really believe in creationism and Azeron has a major in history for knowing not much more about roman history than I was supposed to know at the high school then there must be something rotten. But it would be reckless to judge only on this basis.
If someone can point out to me some websites with the programs of the courses which are kept in your colleges (for that it is worth) I would appreciate.
Also the americans seem to have the fastidiou tendence of ignoring what their government does abroad. So they often fall from the tree, for example bashing France for having supplied weapons to their current enemy (in the majority of the cases read as yesterday ally),ignoring blatantly that usually they managed to supply to their enemies more weapons than France did .
