To be fair, he HAD to block that shot - even if it meant getting a red card.

If he hadn't sacrificed himself, Ghana would be in the semi-final and not Uruguay.

Sorry, still bitter about that foul.

I have never seen a football match like that, especially the ending. And I suspect I won't again in my lifetime. This game will go down on record as one that will be talked about for a long time to come.

Stevie's goal on the 91st minute was a screamer... Have you heard Rafa's interview on that? It's hilarious, he tells you everything that West Ham did wrong that led to the ball being set of Stevie.

I don't think I've seen that. I do remember reading Stevie's explanation of that goal - he was suffering from cramp, so rather than try (and fail) to control the ball properly he just let rip at it. Result: the best goal I've seen in my life.

That is the dumbest thing I have heard in this thread. Of course it is a profit making operation. Do you really think grown men buy football teams to just win football games? Do you think if these guys got paid what say... a janitor makes they would dedicate their lives to playing football? Of course not.
It will facilitate football as long as football makes it money and no longer.
I love it how you assume that most teams are privately owned and that most teams need private ownership to make money. As far as I can tell all that private ownership has done in the EPL is vastly inflate player prices whilst destroying the financial viability of clubs as their owners saddle them with massive debts. The idea that if you banned private ownership and made teams pay players from their actual income wages would drop to that of a janitor is almost as funny as the idea that people playing sport for passion, not a paycheck, is unheard of.

I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.

Ze Germans vs the Argies and then España vs Paraguay!

Can't wait, I'm down at the boozer all day today with my work mates, so won't be able to give my thoughts on these matches; no favourites for the first one just some good football, want Spain to go through for the second!

What would your thoughts be on a Holland-Germany final Thanas? I havn't really been able to watch much of the cup, but I'd make time to see that game if it happened seeing as both teams seem to be playing good football.

Friedrich

3:0

We are crushing them.

And schweinsteiger outplayed five argentinian defenders simultaneously. One by one, he got past them to deliver it to Friedrich to score.

Congrats to Klose (and, seemingly, to Germany). As a neutral, I can't say that this game has been as entertaining as yesterday's Ghana-Uruguay match, but it's obviously being played with much more skill and ability.

So how much cocaine and badmouthing everything in sight up to and including the people of Argentina themselves do you think it is going to take to medicate Maradona after this?
