Yeah, it sounds stupid when you say it like that but, I mean, he DID place the other mannequins there, and he apperantly also forgot that they were mannequins (he was going crazy) and he evens started to treat them as people.
I dont think its too far a strecth to say that he put Fred there, and when he killed him(?) he was distraught over his death that he simply blundered into his own trap.

As far as I know there's nothing scientifically wrong with a virus losing something in the mutation to go airborne.

I guess it could happen, but it's not very likely. The virus first of all has to affect the respiratory system (lungs, airways etc) for it to become airborne. The virus targets cancer and cancer can affect the lungs as well, so that's possible I guess.

There's a number of things that the virus has to evolve to survive outside. We don't know how long it can survive outside the body, but assuming it's significant (a couple of hours) the virus (I think Neville calls it the K-M virus) needs to withstand UV light and temperature. If it evolved within NYC, that explains why it's only adapted to the temperature range of NYC and not temperature extremes like Vermont.

Liked it overall, but i definitely fell apart somewhat in the last half or so, after the woman and kid arrived. I think the ending from the book would have worked a lot better.

I saw that one too, I pointed it out to my friend. She got excited (not as excited as after the Dark Knight trailer, though).

The Batman/Superman poster isn't real; it's a little nod to the fact that the guy who wrote I Am Legend had been working on a Batman/Superman team-up film for DC which was scrapped pretty early on in favour of the lethargic nonsense of Superman Returns.

I don't know where everyone seems to be getting this 12 million figure. 1% of 6 billion is 60 million and he himself cited the exact number for either survivors or the ones that turned into darkseekers, I think it was for survivors which he pinned at 50 million.

Same reaction for me actually. Seemed like everyone in the theater pretty much knew that the dog was going to die at some point. The first groans and whimpers were when they saw all the blood when the dog ran into the building.

Up to the point they brought the woman and kid into it I thought it was a solid 4 star movie, only slipping up due to (relatively) bad CG for the monsters.
Then they added a feel good ending to a film about a half sane man, which had used the tagline "I an the Last Human" in it's promotion, and changed a brilliant ending in the source material.

I'm giving it 3 stars, only because the crap came so late in the film.

Though I am tempted to mark it down further for being as retarded as Signs was for the whole "God has a plan" crap, which pretty much involves God fucking someone over royally just so they attribute a lucky coincidence to him later on, apparently forgetting that if God could set up a load of coincidences to make the good thing he should have been able to do it without fucking them over.

I liked the movie a lot, but I would have liked it better if they had been faithful to the book in that the human survivors (except the main character) are also averse to light and indistinguishable from the crazy blood thirsting ones while sleeping. Thus "I am Legend" refers to how all the survivors see him, as a dangerous creature that comes to kill them in their sleep.

The Dark Seekers are pretty smart. Did nobody notice that they painted the windows of their hive black? Or that one of them opened a hole on the roof of Neville's house in order to get around the armoured windows and doors, and the others acted as if this was part of the plan all along? I'm pretty dammed sure the trap Neville fell into was a trap made by the big dude who appeared to be the hive's leader, the one who was very pissed Neville took his girlfriend (or sister, or whatever).

Remote Islands need food and stuff from the mainland, it was a widely speard vaccine and a vaccined person could have gotten out into Canada and on a plane to Europe doing Busness. Desert Communites yup but a lot of them aren't very self suffienct for the amount of people there.

They weren't addicted to human* blood. They were just hungry. The smell of blood attracted them, and they killed the deer because they are hungry.

I didn't see anyone else talk about it, but I couldn't stand how wanked the zombies were. I absolutely hated how they knocked his SUV over by ramming it, and then the scene near the end when they hid in his laboratory. They tried too hard to make the zombies seem scary...

There was a lot of scuttlebutt floating around the web right before the movie came out about Will Smith leaking the ending at some conference in Japan, and for some reason none of the reporters actually reported on it, and the film company changed the ending anyway, just in case or some such. This fits with the fact that a lot of people have noticed bits of trailer that never appeared in the final movie (particularly that shot of a dark seeker roaring right next to his face). So the question is this: how long before we start hearing about a director's cut?

From what I understand...the original ending was cut because it was too depressing for the test audience, making will smith a little pissed. So he 'leaked' the ending.

I got the impression that the ending was changed late in the rewrite process because otherwise audiences would feel too drained, especially with the emotional death of the dog. Even with the happy ending, I still felt depressed after watching it. If it had been a sadder ending, it would've been risky. (Nuts, just read the above styphon post and see my guess seems accurate.)

I didn't like the cgi zombies or the woman's faith turning out to be true, but it was a good zombie film nonetheless. I was especially impressed with how they conveyed Will Smith's grief after his dog had died. That's something that's really difficult to do without showing someone crying over photographs/tombstones etc, but looking at the empty chair really resonated with me.
