Zaia wrote:Someone somewhere once said that all relationships between the opposite sexes (or whoever it is that you're attracted to) are always affected by sexual tension. Even on a small level, even if it isn't from your side, there's always going to be a bit of it there. After all, for the most part, people are your friends because you like them. So, if you're friends with a chick, you already like her a bit and probably find her at least a little attractive just based on her personality. So, there's always that little bit of sexual attraction.

Of course, in some cases it's a lot more obvious than that. But the point is that with M/F friendships, they're never completely platonic, so there's always going to be that difference between how you act around the opposite sex and how you act around a group of people you will never be sexually attracted to.
So does that sexual tension ever go away? I remember that I had asked out a girl who turned me down and just wanted to be friends. Wasn't my first choice but we hung out. I didn't view her as a potential and didn't really act differently around her, well except talking about the attractiveness of other women that I do with guys. Yet still in about a week we end up sleeping together, uh I assumed that meant that she wanted to be more than friends. It was a bit more gradual than that, but that was the net effect. I was rather suprised at the turn of events. And then a week or so later she says she wants to just be friends and doesn't want to hurt me. Note, this of course, happened on Thursday, ironic to say the least.

So is sexual tension supposed to still exist? Sorry to put you on the spot, but I've been wondering about it for a while and wanted a female perspective. And it does kind of pertain to the topic. Thanks.

A few unsolicted opinions from a male: No, not really. I'm 33, and there's still some tension around with almost all of my female friends, even the ones that are married now. It's not a big deal, it doesn't really get in the way of any friendships, and I would never damage any of my friendships just for a lay, but the tension is still there, and sometimes it's mutual.

As far as your friend, some people sleep with their friends, and that's all it is, sex between friends. I don't understand it, or suggest it, but it happens.

Oh yeah, I forgot that making you an admin of the mirror-board would do that. But as long as you aren't snooping around, I guess that shouldn't matter.

I think Xalev is just demonstrating some of the differences between the theoretical and practical approach to women :)

Hm, yeah, probably. It's unfortunate that I can't work with such vague questions as he was proposing. Tell me exactly what you want to know and I'll explain it to you. Zaia did a good job of that, I think.

Besides, we don't talk about different things than a group of guys may. We just say it differently. ;)

:D Yeah. Thought I'd go back to her for a while. Maybe it'll bring me more respect.

respect....

great now I've got that song stuck in my head, oh well, it's fitting considering what most males know of women's issues is either from music or TV, and most of them don't get the messages anyways...

of course growing up with split up parents, and then later with a smaller female sibling (she's like Zaia's age), I have an understandable overly protective fraturnal instinct going...

*hugs YB* I'm a spoiled brat. I grew up with 3 mothers and 3 fathers (mom, dad, 2 sisters and 2 brothers that range from 18-10 years older than me). For some reason I have a hugely maternal instinct with my friends, but I can't begin to think of myself as a mother.

I have two Stepbrother's, My Stepbrother's Half Brother, and a "Baby" Half sister.

Alex and I get along great
David & Alex get along fine, but David and Me usually try to ignore each other.

Andrew and I hate each other's guts.

Ambrosia keeps trying to get me to write to Andrew while he's in Levenworth.... (Mess folks, does Andrew still count as a Marine, in your opionion?)

Of course not. I wouldn't do that.
Hmm, well, that changes my approach on how to explain things. That is, if you still want me to try.
Sure.
Someone somewhere once said that all relationships between the opposite sexes (or whoever it is that you're attracted to) are always affected by sexual tension. Even on a small level, even if it isn't from your side, there's always going to be a bit of it there. After all, for the most part, people are your friends because you like them. Yes, I realize all of that.
So, there's always that little bit of sexual attraction.
I don't deny that there would be attraction. I'm just saying that unless that attraction is quite strong, I wouldn't really care about it.

Zaia wrote:I think part of why this thread has lasted so long is that he doesn't really know what it is he wants to know.
It's not just the reason for this thread's longevity, but it's whole existance. Of course I don't know what exactly it is I'm looking for. No one ever says what it is, always just vague references to "It". It's beginning to look like "it" - whatever "it" is - is really just something (or more likely large number of somethings) tame and trivial ( to me, at least), and all the "OMG THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!" shit I see about it is centered on a small core of queasy individuals who blow it all out of proportion, and that the rest of it is just a bunch of ignorant alarmists pointing into the darkness and screaming. I've suspected this for a while, but now it would seem that my suspicions are being confirmed.

I have many good friends that are women; unfortuntely it tends to put girlfriends on the defensive. One girl I dated would not believe the ability of a guy and a girl to be "just friends". She felt like, either you've had sex before and are tempted to do it again, or you've not had sex and are looking to experiment.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

I have many good friends who are men, and we've talked sex many times (I know nearly as much about their penises as I do about Sn0's, without seeing them).
But there's still a boundary, even with me, who talks about sex at all times of the day and night. I would never share tips and tricks with male friends the way I do with girl friends; I don't talk about hygiene; and I don't share intimate details about particular men. (OK, about Ro Jo-Mu)

Mainly because I've never talked to a man about the colour of his penile discharge, about his particular cunnilingus technique, or what his girlfriend (in my circle, usually also a friend of mine) does that he likes so much.

If males don't want to talk about these kind of things with us, why should we talk about them with them?

Also, it's difficult to have a discussion about underwear or vibrators with a hetero/bi man without getting the catalogue wet...
