I hope no Portuguese people heard that...

BTW - anyone remember the Simpsons episode where we met all Cletus Delroy's children?? He has over 10 children, and he must have ran out of good ideas at a point as evidenced by the fact that one of his sons is named Q-Bert.
WarriorclanX wrote:I live in a city where blacks are the majority and most of those kids have pretty stupid names like laquisha and junk but the worse and stupidest is in my high school there was a kid with the name 'Abcd' his parents couldn't think of any name when he was born, I mean it isn't that hard to think of a name (or make one up) but the lazziness of those parents is just beyond words....
Somebody actually named their child ABCD??

Good gosh. In Denmark, there's some laws about which names you can give your children - this prevented a gas station clerk from calling his son "Esso" IIRC. There are some downsides of this but that's tolerable.

However, Laquisha isn't that bad a name - sure, it sounds weird, but it has a nice ring to it.
LadyTevar wrote:Although many 'old-fashioned' names are making an appearance in the 2000's, such as Emily, Norma, Edith, and Lucy/Lucille.
I thought that Emily wasn't an "old-fashioned" name. Sure, it's slightly Victorian, but it's not as old-fashioned as the other names you listed.

(It seems like you depends on where you live. For example, names such as Nicoline or Jeanette might seem like "new" in Denmark or Sweden but I bet they aren't in France and Belgium!)

Rent?? Somebody actually called their child that?

Shouldn't you take puns in consideration before naming your child?

Saul. Yeah, I always thought that was a pretty strange name.

I wouldn't beat her up, just punch her a little. If she was good-looking (and not your daughter), I'd use her stupid name to flirt with her. But I'd have to punch her, at least a little, on principle.
Why? That's what I was asking in the first place? What the fuck is wrong with naming a girl Morrigan? I think it's a lovely name.

It's just Galic for Goddess of Death and Battle.

Hmm, I went to school with a Herne (Celtic version of the Grim Reaper, lord of the wild hunt) and with a Lucifer (no they were not related)

I know that. What I don't know is why Robert feels he is somehow obligated to impart physical violence upon a girl just because her name is Morrigan.

Stay out of it. What the fuck do you care, anyway? It's not your thread or your part of the conversation.

I'm fucking tired of Storm taking single occurances and broadening them into blanket statements concerning my overall behavior.

On the contrary, you've accused me on an ocassion where you later admitted you were wrong. You've called people racist and went after them on several occassions for using the term Japanimation. You've also made accusations of racism on a number of ocassions relating to dicussion of Japanese culture. It might be limited to discussion of things japanese but you've got penchant for being over-eager to label people racists yourself.

The cake for dumb names goes to Paula Yates and Bob Geldof with the cracking Heavenly Haralda and the other daughter was called something even stupider that i won't even try to spell. Propesctive parents really should be forced to do some kind of exam before they are allowed to breed.

Incidently my mother and older sister are called Beatrice, which is unusual.

BTW Hamel take back the Trent comment before me or Einy are forced to do our duty as diehard NIN fans and murder you to death.

I say a minor should be legally allowed to change their first name if they can present proof that it has given them ridicule, rather than having laws on what a child can be named. That way, a kid doesn't have to go through the first 18 years of his life because their idiot parents named them after a beer, car, something seen on an acid trip, or movie character.

I haven't seen any bad first names, but I have seen some funny last names, probably becuase the family has had the name for centuries and they don't want to dishonor the family and change it or something. I've seen "Getsoff" (Okay, Richard Getsoff, but to what), for example.

So this means that a sports car enthusiast is free to name his daughters Matra, Lagonda and Espada??? (points for guessing which cars I'm referring to!) And that a Tolkienist can name his children Galadriel, Radagast and Fingolfin??

(One of my friends actually bears the nickname Frodo. But's that's not his given name)

In the US you can name your child anything you want as long as it is not obviously insulting or obcene.

Sadly, yes. A vegan couple in California named their kid Tomato once. I'm sure they thought it was a brilliant statement
