Actually, it was the canister holding the positron charge - the gun was operating on external power. After firing once, that canister was expended, so another had to be loaded.

Apparently cooling and recharging were factors as well.

Though I haven't watched the anime in a while and the details about Remiel may have been changed in the transition.

Anywho, I second Kiyone and Tsunami. Wonderful characters. Add in Final Fantasy VII's Aeris and 08th MS Team's Aina Sahalim to the list, and I think that pretty much maps out the four coners of my definition of a woman.

Because the style for the last 50-60 years was originally derived from American animation, especially Tezuka's work (which he based off of the Betty Boop cartoons, IIRC). Everything subsequently has simply gone on its own tangent from there.

The real question is: why do most American comics and cartoons nowadays resemble/mimmick the anime and manga style, typically the cruder or more simplistic variations? Can't they at least copy good anime?

ANime is considered as mainstream as theatre is over in Japan, IIRc. There's a huge franchise from it, even bigger than movies.

That could be a factor, but I'd say it's more likely that American artists are basing it off of anime porn, cheap 'toy-selling' shows, or doujinshi (fan-made comics based on liscenced series. Some are very popular, and some manga writers get their start this way. American-made 'doujinshi' is almost always pornographic, go figure.), as opposed to higher-quality works, which don't have the same ration of domestic releases in this country. Its funny how some people act like the Japanese are a bunch of perverts because of all the porn over here. Did they ever wonder whose demanding it in the first place? Perhaps less than a third of all non-ultra-violent, non-pornographic anime has been brought over here, yet a quick look through the Anime Encyclopedia reveals that just about every (if not every) porn title reached our shores within a year or two of its release. Funny, eh?

The live-action film industry is often a grade below the technology/buget available to anime. While arguably Japanese animation is better than the American variety, Japan is definitely behind in live-action production by at least several years or as much as a decade.

And most of the live-action adaptations suck like hell. For example, take GTO. It was a hell of a lot better on celluloid.

Alot of it stems from what distribution companies want to spend and what they expect from their market. Many normal series took years to so much as get a limited subtitled release, yet most porn hits the shelves dubbed and in droves. The distribution companies know that Americans are more likely to watch a cartoon to beat off to than to find a plot and likeable charaters. They're also still pretty slow to change that mentality even as the market warms up to anime.

Then again, alot of people in certain regions still don't 'get it', especailly in the midwest. There's a reason why in eastern Iowa, Princess Mononoke only showed in the theatre near the University of Iowa; people here in Cedar Rapids wouldn't know what the fuck to make of it, even if they didn't bring their kids like most in Iowa City did.

Hmmm... I see now. Most people can't take anime seriously (Almost every adult I know scolds me for watching cartoons when I'm watching Saiyuki or for reading trash comics when I'm reading Sandman)

I think they grew up with the idea of the comic as child's entertainment rather than graphic novel, and with "Mighty Mouse" in mind when thinking about animated stuff.

You just don't associate with the right people, ESB. I'm a 35 year old Anime addict. There is a huge anime con nearby that is usually packed with people.
