Seems to me that they knew that it sucked, and just released the movie when they did so they would have an excuse for poor box office numbers.

It's called covering your ass, or it's someone else's fault.

If celeberties had any brains they would be doing some productive, skilled, task rather than merely selling their looks and/or voices.
