Blunkett's idea to cut gun crime in the UK among other stuff

5 year
minimum sentence for posessing a gun! What a genius this man is! Talk about a knee jerk reaction. You can get less than that for killing someone.
BBC article
Oh yes he's also banning replica guns, like that's going to help stop the flood of cheap weapons from Eastern Europe and other such areas.
Guardian article on it (best I could find sorry)
This
article is just bizarre.
Oh yeah this also comes hot on the heels of an announcement that community sentancing for burglars is now the preferred punishment. Community service for robbing someones house but 5 years for having a gun!
WHAT THE FUCK?
Tony Blair is a worthless failure as a prime minister and David Blunkett is a complete moron. Gun crime has more than doubled under this shitty givernment and public services are an even bigger joke than they were under the Tories.
What was the slogan? "tough on crime and the causes of crime" yeah right. The justice system becomes more and more of a joke as the days go by. They've somehow managed to rig the figures so that it looks like overall crime rates are dropping but it's bullshit and everyone knows it. Crime rates where I live go up year in, year out. The police do nothing, they don't even bother to come out to crime reports half the time! Someone kicked out back door in once and the police threatened to arrest us if we made a noise securing out house! I repeat, WHAT THE FUCK?
Unemployment at least where I live is fucking terrible. There's no jobs for anyone unless you want to be a cleaner. You'll see maybe a dozen new jobs a week in the local paper for a population of near 100K with more than 10% unemployment. Most of those are crap as well. Nearly everyone who leaves school ends up on some stupid scheme so they can massage the unemployment figures.
Schools are beyond a joke now. No discipline at all. Kids get away with murder.
The NHS isn't even worth commenting on. It's a walking corpse.
Tony Blair and new labour need to fuck off back under the rock they crawled out from under. They're running this country into the ground.[/url]

I suggest you do it. Otherwise the fee for going on a MKSheppardesque

This shit reminds me of the term paper I wrote on the subject.
A jail sentence will *not* discourage firearm possession. Stupid politicos will never learn...

Actually it was
illegal possesion of a gun. Anyway...
The man is an idiot. IMO he only gets away with being so stupid because he is blind and if you sacked him the PC crowd would endlessly whinge. The whole fucking lot should be exiled, and a decent replacement (me) found.
Not to mention the fact that the moron's election mantra was;
"Education, education, education."
Whereas the fuckers are trying to dissuade people from higher education (Peons
)

I always used to believe in gun control. After all why do people need to own lethal weapons? Especially in a country where hunting is for the most part uncommon. But it's pretty obvious now that it has failed to accomplish anything. I best if we got gun crime statistics from the year when Dunblane went down they would be much, much smaller than current statistics. it's futile. The guns are available anyway and they aren't that expenive. Our policeman are utterly fucked as well, what good's a stick and a whistle against a crook with a gun? We have armed police, but we don't have anywhere near enough of them.
This new legislation is all because of a few high profile shootings and bad statistics coming to light at the wrong time for Blair. He wants to go dropping bombs on Iraq and he doesn't need discontent on the home front. This is the appeaser. Like it's going to do anything. I can just see the criminals getting rid of their weapons when they realise they'll go to jail longer for having them
Ugh. I guess at least this means some of the media is no longer in Blair's pocket.
I guess I'll be signing those forms Shep
There'll be plenty of New Labour stupdity for me to rant about in the future I imagine. Not that there's anyone better to replace them. It's scary how shitty the politicians in this country are. We have a choice between a moron, a non entity and wasting the vote.

Okeydokey. Just for everyone's gratification, if you are a SOMETHING AWFUL

He will confirm that I used to be a

Until I got slapped with the cruel harsh hand of reality.
Now I'm a

You know what they say about converts being more fanatical than

Okay I just looked at the local paper and this really does make me wonder. A local small time crook had over £1000 in unpaid fines as well as not having paid a penny towards them for 3 months and he was in court for shoplifting. What does he get? You'd think jail time would be appropriate right? Not according to Hartkepool magistrates! His fines have been cut in half! So for being caught thieving he's been effectively saved £500! There's something wrong with the picture here...

Gun control as a whole is simply laughable.
-Buy a legal AK parts set without lower receiver
-buy 1.02 mm sheet metal
-cut and bend lower receiver using tools everyone has at home
If someone wants to own a gun, he will get one.
Noone can prevent this.

It's what happens when you have stupid old liberal fuddy duddys running the justice system. They seem to be reluctant to actually punish anyone nowadays.

could you explain the case more detailed, because i cant believe that some guy steals stuff in a shop, gets cought and the judge basicly gives him 500 bucks. there must be some reason for verdict.

Unless you happen to be a civilian who uses deadly force to defend your home. Then they'll throw the book at you.

Full story on the web. Makes no sense to me. He hasn't paid his fines in 3 months and then he gets caught thieving, I'd have given the bastard jail time and plenty of it.

Are you talking about the farmer bloke? From what I know he deserved all he got. He lay in wait and then shot the little fucker in the back as he ran away, that could never be classified as reasonable force. I have no sympathy for the burglar but that was not needed, not at all.

Which is daft, given that the laws we have are already enough that our police forces have already, on one occasion, had an armed response unit arrest, interrogate, and take DNA samples from three twelve-year-olds playing cops and robbers with a plastic toy gun.
They've somehow managed to rig the figures so that it looks like overall crime rates are dropping but it's bullshit and everyone knows it.
I love that, too. Oops, we don't like the statistics. so we'll say they're wrong and adjust them to where we'd like them to be.
There was a good article in the Telegraph about the gun laws which can be summed up as: now that gun laws have failed, why haven't the people who'd have taken the credit for they're success taken the blame? I'd link it, but you need an account to view they're webpages now.

Where do you live? We had a cop out here to take statements over a flasher in the area last year - hardly a priorty case, even in Berkshire.

Kids get a worse rep than they deserve - and it's hard to be respectful when adults always assume you're trouble.
Have you heard the latest from Scotland? Detentions may be in breach of the EU Convention on Human Rights. That's pretty much the last tool of discipline left to our teachers... not that they have time for discipline with all the paperwork they do now.

And surly these people should specialise in something? Blunkett, as I recall, moved to the Home Office from Education. I fail to see how one qualifies him in the other.

Not Tony Martin.
There was another case where a guy was wrestling with a burglar and stabbed him with a bread knife multiple times.

Oh yeah him. I'm a tad sceptical on that one, I mean how many times did he stab the burglar?

Hartlepool. We have a really, really shitty police force. They just don't care.

Nah, my brother is still in school and I have a pretty good idea what the kids are like there because of that, they're a bunch of bastards.

The EU can go take a long walk off a short pier. Detention is an inadequate disciplinary tool as it is, harsh words alone won't get teachers anywhere.

He had the personality and charisma of a dead fish. He was virtually unelectable. The fact that the tories found someone even more unlikely to get elected as his successor is a testimony to their overall shiteness. The liberal democrats will overtake them soon unless they get a new leader with half a clue, they're catching up pretty quick now IIRC.

Here's a link to the stabbing incident. The guy that broke into the house had a machete as well as a lengthy prior criminal record.

Hmm I don't remember that little factoid making it's way into the mainstream press but then again I didn't really follow the case and the only papers my family buy are tabloids

An untrained individual with a knife, fighting another individual with a knife, is expected to drive home the blade a considerable number of times; it is a simple fact that they will not have any experience in how to cleanly kill the individual in question with a single blow (and it is even far harder to disable them), and so their recourse, being unable to tell when their opponent is "down for the count", is simply to keep stabbing away until they know the guy is dead - Which, in some cases, might be long after he actually is dead.
The sentencing was another example of the pathetic state of the UK's criminal justice system these days.
