The German Bund Camp on Federal Hill

In the late 1930s, Germans moved up onto Federal Hill and started a Bund camp called the Bergwald, which means mountain forest. Bund is a German society.

When Hitler came into power, the Klu Klux Klan went up to the entrance of the bund camp and burned a cross in protest. They warned the swastika-wearing Germans to get out of the area, but no attention seems to have been paid.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the government stepped in and chased the bundists out.

When the bundists were gone, the government found some ammunition and guns on the hill, but no gunpowder.

In 1950, a fire started on the hill and there were three explosions, probably caused by some hidden black powder.

Too bad they couldn't have finished each other off.

Are you trying to imply that the KKK were actually enemies of the Third Reich? From their ideology, it sounds like the KKK and the Nazis would love each other in bed, except for the national differences.

They didn't like the Nazis only because the Nazis didn't like America and capitalism.

The Nazis were German nationalists. The KKK are American nationalists.

Each nationalist thinks his/her country is better than all others.
When nationalists of different nationality meet, carnage will ensue!!!

I would venture to say the particular reason this KKK didn't like the Germans was because the are mostly Catholic, and not Anglo-Saxon.

no, i believe there are slightly more german protestant thatn german catholics.

I must point out that the KKK doesn't just hate blacks, they hate anyone not white, Anglo-Saxon, and Protestant. This hated of course includes foreigners, so German imigrents would be game for them. There is no reference in this instance of the Germans imigrants being Nazis, or what their religion was. To say that the KKK and the Nazis are at odds because of this particular story is simply stupid.

i saw a Jerry Springer episode where the grand wizard, a slanderous name to all black mages here, of the KKK defected to the Nazi's. There was a massive fight and the KKK guys kicked his ass. Jerry was content to watch and try not to laugh..........

Actually, the KKK burn the cross not to desecrate the cross, but to illuminate the cross. After all, they're Christian fundamentalists.

Actually, while the KKK has been quite negative towards Catholics in the part (they felt that the Catholics were more loyal towards the Pope than to the USA) - but today, some Klan groups allow catholics to become members.

(There isn't ONE Ku Klux Klan, just a lot of small groups of racial seperatist buffoons who all claim to be part of "The Klan" despite the fact that many of them compete with each other - because of this, the KKK's worst enemy is actually itself.)
