It is been brought to my attention by several people on this BBS forum that my avatar is somewhat...disturbing. I am ultilizing this poll to see if more people like it, or not. So....

Should I change my avatar [and why]?

Yes, the pink eye avater is very disgusting but I don't think you need to change it.

The avatar looks like the eyeball of a dead fish that's been sitting in the summer sun for a few days. I find it rather disgusting, get a nicer looking picture.

Well, then quite a few members are crazy. And Bean's avatar wasn't that bad.
If so many people think it's disgusting, then I guess he should change it if he wants these people to pay attention to him. I'd have thought this crowd would be a bit more hardy, though. I mean, it's just a picture of pink eye...don't tell me you've never had pink eye...

That's not even the point. When you're skimming through a thread you must pass through his posts, paying or not attention.

Yeah, and I've had my chin opened in a 20 stitch cut. Doesn't mean I have to like to see myself bleeding. Different people have different sensibilities. Some can't see a horror movie, others just laugh at the death scenes.

Wait, that's precisely the point! Certainly no one would say that an image like that should be banned for simply upsetting a reader's sensibilities, right? It isn't lewd or offensive by any meaningful definition of the terms.
The only reason he should change it is if he wants to gain the respect of those who find it disgusting.

Yes, in that I agree. Nobody's going to flame him, or to ban him on account of his avatar. But it's polite of him to change it for something else, if a significant number of people are asking him to. It's not like it's an important issue. There is an infinity of images he can use as avatar without objections.

I agree, it's just that I think that "being polite" and "trying to earn respect" are the same. One isn't simply polite for the sake of being polite; it is done for a reason.
Anyhow, I think he should keep it. It looks pretty cool, and it's funny that people think it's disgusting.
