Who here remembers Ufo?
I'm curious to know who else is a fan of this game as ufo 2000 basically rejuvenates it into a real multiplayer with an almost proper engine, even the original kicks ass

Excellent game by far!

You got the CD? I only have the 3.5" disks. Still a fun game though. Just don't bother with any Night Terror missions at first. You learn quick with those monsters.
The best though, is if you can get a Sectoid Leader or Commander at the beginning so you aren't remote-controlled when the Ethereals arrive.
For profit, the Laser Cannons are the best in the game. 300 hours, and a higher profit margin than Laser Pistols. Get a few bases making just those (plus large radar installations), and your campaign is well on the way. Of course, you might want ot keep a little room in the other bases, in case a UFO attacks that base, and you don't want ot lose the Engineers.

I still remember the first time I saw a Chrysalid. Scared the crap out of me and my friend. We saw it running at our guys and both went "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?" "AHHHHH"

To hell with Etherals....those Chrysalid are possibly the worst enemy you can come up against even with ranged firepower...it was all those damnniable tu's that messed up the day

Yes, the Chrysalids are indeed evil. The first time I encountered them I lost half my damn team to one.

Ok, tell me where I can find out about XCom 2000, or I'll have to start hurting people
On an entirely unrelated note, who here has played Terror from the Deep? I'd like to find out how an
exact copy of my favorite game of all time sucks so badly.
Ok, back to hunting Mutons now...

X-Com 2000? There's a new one coming out?
Personally i prefer X-Com Apocolypse for one very big reason: REAL TIME COMBAT! None of those turns where you can do nothing but watch your squad get blasted apart!

W00t! X-Com! Oh the fun that could be had with demolition charges and incindiary RPGs...

With a name like X-Com 2000 it seems like it might not have been made and won't.
I still want this though:
The concept sounded kinda cool.

Too bad it looks like it won't be made also.

UFO2000 is a remake of tactical part of X-COM: UFO Defense (UFO: Enemy Unknown) game. It uses all the graphics and sounds from that game (you have to unpack ufo2000 into the folder with UFO1 or at least with content of ufo2000dat.zip) and adds only one new feature - multiplay and one enhancement - 640x400 resolution

These guys are trying to remake Ultima V. Another one of my favorites.

Did you guys get attached to your men in X-com? I still remember Patrick Ngyuen my laser rifle sharpshooter. I also remember when one of my squaddies killed serveral Floaters with his pistol after running out of ammo for his auto-rifle.

I love X-Com as much as any other Microprose games, but it is the HARDEST Microprose game ever, IMHO.

Yup. I remember specifically, after a couple of years, Private Joe Bob who bravely blew himself up along with several aliens to save the rest of the squad. And Private Mike Rotch who stupidly blew himself up when I forget that I had set the timer on an explosive such that he couldn't move out of range in time.
Good soldiers both. Well mostly the first one.

X-COM: Terror from the Deep is INFINITELY harder than the original.
Personally, I NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER let one of my soldiers die.

Yup that's what I meant
Not going to have a soldier killed- they're a valuable resource.

Me too. That's why X-Com is *SO* hard.
BTW I never let one of my tanks killed as well in M1 Tank Platoon.

UFO was a kickass game, and so was X-Com: Apocalypse. Terror from the Deep was exactly that, an unholy terror from the depths of some retard's ass.
I never let soldier die either, not the good ones, new recruits were another thing entirely. But anybody who got easily mind controlled got either the boot, or transfer to a base with other such non-psionic idiots and relegated only to taking care of non-psi enemies such as mutons or floaters. On the other hand, having the strong psi-types in one team was fun, turning mind-control back on the aliens, ahh, the fun and games...
BTW, I finished TftD also, and it was a lot harder than the original. The major suckage part about it was limited tech tree, if you researched something before you had acquired the followup items that tech #1 allowed you to research, you were never allowed to research them at all. E.g I never got to research the intermediate armor, which really sucked, but not nearly as much as my brother's game where he never was given the opportunity to acquire psi tech. Alien base missions were an absolute horror, and I managed one once with just a few men, run in, go to next level, blow up central control and scram. Things got easier when I got the psi-control stuff working.

I didnt worry about soldiers until they became squaddies.

That's funny, I can't remember any of those TftD tech tree problems?
I DO remember that
a)ocean liner missions SUCKED, and
b)the Lobster Men were a wee bit on the tough side, considering you could
run into them even before you had Gauss weapons.

I LOVED TftD
The night underwater mission were SO much creepier than those from the original.
Plus, UFOs looked much more "technical", had cooler shapes, there were many, many more tougher aliens, and it was hard as hell...
But the ocean liners sucked ass, I'll give you that
