Okay I think it depends. If it comprimises your integredy then yes sure it does. Some of my friends that have become managers at work, they're still the same; muck around, goof off, but present a professional face to the punters. But others *shudders*

It depends. If this person has very high integrity, then I doubt it would happen. However, if this person is selfish and likes other people kissing his ass, then power would make him worse very quickly. It isn't a black-white issue (power or no power), there is a gray area.

Anytime you get a friend a job is an example of power corrupting. It does, always, to a certain extent.

Power corrupts, how much depends on the person but the ability to do something leads to the temptation to do that thing. You can refrain for a while but it is human nature to fail and a person will at some point fail to restrain themselves from using their power when it grants them the ability to do that which they shouldn't.

Power corrupts. Humans are greedy by nature and power provides many opportunities for greed.

I've seen gorillas throw shit, but not semen. How do you throw a sticky white substance anyway?

Power does corrupt. As much as I'd hiope otherwise, the truth is that people are greedy and lazy. give them power and they'll take advantage of it to give themselves more for less.

I think it would depend on the person's personality if power was given to them suddenly, and if the person wanted power in the first place, then his/her reason for wanting power.

Some people are just more conscience-minded than others. That's a fact.

I think that people, generally speaking, suck ass, and the average Joe is more than likely going to be a bastard if he's given power. It would take a pretty big person to not abuse it.

I think most people, even good people, would abuse it. Though the degree may not be very large.

It would take a belief that any abuse would lead to the "Dark Side" for someone not to abuse it, at least a little.

Yes...if for no other reason than when most taste a little they want more of it.

The totology that power corrupts is in fact a self-fulfilling prophecy. People who seek power TEND to be corrupt, because otherwise they would not seek power as ambitiously, but also because any USE of power can be interpreted as corruption and in order to become powerful you first must use power. It's circular reasoning.

The whole question of power depends exclusively on what power, and how much, you're talking about.

I mean, I have absolute power over a lot of things, most of them trivial. This hardly leads to corrupt use of those things.

As Lord Acton put it: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts
absolutely."

lets say absolute power. the godlike power of stalin. if youwere given it, how would it corrupt you? and what would you do in the meantime?

Men in power will be corrupted. Human greed won't let it happen any other way. It all started when the Roman Republic fell. Politicians were no longer seperated from the ppl. It's hard to be a good person when you can't seen further then your self.
