Oh, great. A newbie who has a mind flayer for an avatar.

Well, I lurked at PA for a long time, so I thought it would be better to jump in and start posting rather than to inflict a "Hi, I'm new" thread on the board.

Nice try at avoiding getting poked. Now feel the cleansing power of pure thermonuclear fire!

Consider yourself poked.
Oh, and welcome.

Don't worry, it wasn't personal. I just have a history of bad experiences with mind flayers from NetHack...

Hmmm wouldn't find much a snack in DS now would they?
But yes, nasty suckers...with their blasted psi attack and brain eating...though they do worship a giant brain mass...sorta ironic as I see it.

They're usually the first species to be genocided in any NetHack game I do. Otherwise, it usually takes two or three whacks with a weapon like Grayswandir or Frost Brand to bring them down, and by that point they've usually dropped a few intelligence points and given my character amnesia...

Well I can see why
...though why when I think of them the whole Zombie "Brains...BRAINS!!" always rings a bell in my head.
Either way...I hate the suckers in BG2 where they have multiple spell immunities...and if I'm lucky only one character has gone stupid on me.

It's all fun and games poking the newbies....
....until someone pokes a newbie that's made of nitroglycerine.

Mindflayers secretly want to be Deepones and Starspawn....

Haha, I loved my BG2 campaign. My main character was a kensai with 18s in everything that counts, but a wisdom of 2...
... guess how many times he was charmed and slaughtered my entire party (I'm talking about 8 or 9 attacks per round
)

But Mindflayers look like Cthulhu without wings.... And by the way, not all Mindflayers are purple. (The 3rd Edition Monster Manual depicts a Mindflayer with green skin)

Mind flayers are pieces of shit. I had to fight my way through a sewer full of them in "Baldur's Gate II."

There's nothing like getting mobbed by 2 master mind flayers and a few underlings (all summoned by an arch-lich) in NetHack. If you don't have a wand of death (or the spell finger of death) and that happens... you can kiss your brain goodbye.

The first time I fought one of them, they instantly confused my half-orc fighter who went around bashing everyone with a Crom Faeyr, killed my mage, and seriously injured my archer. When I finally made it through the fucking sewer, though, it was worth it. That place has AWESOME loot.

Yeah the sewer section does have some great loot...personally though I hate the Drow city area(if you take up that route)...the loot isn't worth the pain.
And less said about ToB special fun area...the better

They have starships that carry 'Great Old Ones'. Do we
really want to fuck with them?

Oh jeebus forgot Spelljammer's...SHIPLOADS of them.
Ugh somehow a raiding party of those bastards would make me want to develop a Nuke equal in SJ.
